Why Girls Are Obsessed With 'The Bachelorette'

Do not get me wrong, I am fairly obsessed with "The Bachelor." But something about the Bachelorette makes girls jump off their feet. Maybe it's because women like Jojo make us girls want to be her. Or maybe it is because sometimes it is so evident that the show is making these people look crazy. We all know that girls have a reputation for being head over heels in love with this show, and I will tell you exactly why this is.

Well, first of all, we hate that we love this show.

The Bachelorette has a terrible reality to it. I think us girls understand that one woman should not be so desperate to find love. There should not have to be twenty-six men lined up from all across the country for one woman to find love. Another sick reality of the show is that, frankly, there is nothing real about finding love by traveling across the world. What happens when they reach the underlying truths of living in a normal house with a normal life? These are the facts every girl is aware of, but is still guilty of having an endless passion for this show.

Secondly, we get to watch this show together.

Girls all across the country will text in their group messages, "bachelorette @ 8?." This is an important factor because this show is probably the most aggressively watched reality show on television. By aggressive, I mean girls will be sitting on the couch yelling at the TV when someone does something ignorant. Or we can all be in awe of how perfect one of the contestants are (Jordan from Jojo's season.) In contrast, when watching the show, one has to know the balance between when to talk and when not to talk. Sometimes, guys just do not understand our love for this show. They think it is stupid that girls can sit around and watch this show together. They just do not understand our passionate relationship with this fantastic show.

Lastly, it is fun to predict the outcome of this show.

For example, in the last season of the Bachelor, I'm sure that everyone could predict on the first episode that Olivia was 99.5% going to win the entire show. However, there was a mind-boggling twist that almost no one could have seen this coming. Personally, I would have never guessed that Olivia would have turned out on the show the way she did. That brings us to the corrupt part of the show. Being a clueless audience member, we truly do not know what is going on behind-the-scenes. But what we do know is that you really cannot predict what crazy episodes are to come. There is always an element of dramatic scenarios that go on throughout the season, and you get a little taste of what is coming up through the previews. The producers are excellent at providing us with a solid sneak peak of what is going to happen in future episodes.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
