Football. Duh, we’re THE Ohio State University. We’re the undisputed national champions.
Football block, complete with girls and guys dressed head to toe in their game day gear, warm Natty Light beer and mainstream music blasting with dancing girls on tables to go along with it. It wouldn’t be a real block if there weren’t bows in hair, stickers on faces, and at least one “OSU Grandma” shirt on a fraternity guy. There’s guaranteed to be beer flying through the air when someone’s favorite song comes on, and girls screaming and hugging when they see their best friend that they “haven’t seen in forever,” but in reality they just saw them yesterday.
Obviously, the most important part of game day is the game. The game that we most likely will win because once again we are the undisputed national champions. It begins and ends with the crowd swaying singing “Carmen.” The stadium is assured to be a sea of scarlet and grey, with fans cheering at the top of their lungs for their favorite team. There will be a section of fans booing a single person for wearing the opposite team’s jersey, especially if it’s Michigan. (Michigan Sucks!!!) The best damn band in the land will perform at half time and they will blow the crowd away with their music and formation changes. WHEN Ohio State wins the game, the crowd will go wild because to them it’s more than just a game.
Ohio State football games are more than just a game to many, from block to the end of the game; the sole purpose of game day is to bring people together. Whether it be new friends, old friends, or family, for years game day serves as a tradition. Many families make it a point to go to at least one game per year, so they can enjoy the atmosphere. Ohio State alumnae oftentimes come back to attend the football games, so they can relive their best memories at the place they once called home. And, of course, current OSU students attend all of the games and create their own amazing memories with their school.
In the song “Carmen Ohio,” the statement, “How Firm The Friendship Ohio” is sung. At Ohio State, you are guaranteed to make friendships that last a lifetime. During game day, you’re spending time with those best friends, strengthening your friendships, cheering on your team, and having the time of your life. If that’s not pure happiness, then I don’t know what is.
