Florida honestly gets a lot of crap for being Florida. We have too much humidity, tourist season is hell, the heat can make the Devil want to curl up in a ball and cry, and mosquitos. And trust me, after living here for 18 years, you have no idea what would make anyone want to come on a vacation to Florida. But let's just take a minute to look at all of the great the things that Florida has to offer.
Let's start with colleges and sports teams: We are home to the UF Gators, the FSU Seminoles *cue fight song and tomahawk chopping*, the University of Miami Hurricanes, and much more. We also have Dunk City at FGCU, so we're not just football buffs down here in the south. There are 142 colleges in Florida, 83 public and 56 private (shout out to University of Tampa). And our sports teams down here in the 'Dirty South' can get quite dirty. So don't go dissing Florida just yet, even though our state is basically it's own version of the Civil War between FSU fans and UF fans.
Another amazing thing that Florida has to offer, which we don't realize is so convenient until you drive there after class still have like 6 hours in the park, is Disney World. People come from not just all over the country, but also the world to see little ole' Mickey Mouse. Mickey's second home is right here in the Sunshine State, and if that's not something to throw into another state's face then I don't know what is. Because we don't just have one Disney park, we have 6! And who doesn't love Mickey? And we not only have Disney World (let's just broaden this up a bit), we also have Universal, Busch Gardens, Sea World, Aquatica, Pirate's World, Jungle Island, Legoland, and Wet'n'Wild. SO yeah I think Florida wins the theme park contest, thank you very much.
And finally, my second favorite part of Florida (Disney definitely takes first place), are the beaches. There are so many gorgeous beaches in Florida, I mean we are surrounded by water on three sides, but still I mean who doesn't love a good beach? There's Sanibel, Captiva, Daytona (this one is really cool because you can drive your car on the beach), Miami, Fort Lauderdale Beach, Siesta Key, Naples, Sarasota, Destin, Key West, Clearwater, Hollywood, and Panama City; I could go on for days but I'm pretty sure you get my point now about Florida and its fabulous beaches.
So, before you ever start to think about how much Florida sucks and why anyone would possibly come to Florida, think of all the good things Florida has to offer. And just a reminder, if you love OJ you do rely on us for that too.
