We have all gone through the awkward experience of finding a roommate. Whether we like to recognize it or not, this process is much more like online dating; however, things move much faster than your typical match.com relationship. This process is emotionally stressful, and you have to move fast or someone might steal your perfect room(soul)mate.
1. Setting up your profile
This is your opportunity to brag about your greatest qualities, and list what you're looking for in a roommate. This might include your bedtime, cleanliness, if you like to share, studying habits, if you are a smoker or non-smoker, and if you like to party. It is crucial that you are as specific as possible, or else you might get stuck with some weirdo that eats your snacks.
2. Looking for the prettiest candidates
You might find yourself picking potential roomies based on looks, and that's totally normal. Nothing is better than having a good looking roomie that can get you into all of the frat parties, and it's a major plus if they wear the same size clothes as you.
3. Chatting online
This is the stage where you have found a few girls that might turn out to be "the one," and it's time to get to know each other. Conversations might include your favorite colors, favorite sports, and any similarities you might share. During this stage, you might discover you have a really great connection with one girl in particular.
4. Wondering if you're the only one
You can't help but wonder if your perfect match is talking to other girls about rooming. What if she doesn't like me as much as I like her? What if she is planning on asking another girl to be her roommate? Why hasn't she responded yet?!
5. Popping the question
This might be the most nerve-racking thing you'll experience within your 4 years of college: asking if she will be be your roommate. Nothing is worse than rejection, but it happens...
But don't fret, you'll eventually find the perfect roommate....
6. Planning the first roomie date
You'll most likely want to meet the person you are rooming with for an entire year, so it is time to plan a roomie date. The roomie date will usually cover matching comforters, decorations, and most importantly, who is bringing the micro-fridge.
7. Finally, move-in day!
The day you've been waiting on has arrived, freshman move-in day! Today is the day you rearrange the used furniture, put up the decorations, and make your matching beds. This is also the day you realize you're stuck in a 4x4 room for an entire year with a stranger you met online.
...But it's okay, you learn to love living with your roomie and your dorm room.
