Why Finding Dory Is Amazing

These characters really make the movie so much more than a sequel to a childhood film.

Why Finding Dory Is Amazing

If you watched "Finding Dory," then you may have enjoyed all the wondrous things about it. You may or may not have as much Dory merch as I do, but we can definitely agree on the reasons why it is amazing!

Some spoilers ahead!

Baby Dory

We get the cutest glimpse of Dory's childhood in "Finding Dory." She is extremely adorable and by far the cutest character that I have seen in animation. Baby Dory is extremely sweet and deeply cares for her family. Dory tries her hardest to learn for her parents although it is extremely hard. She decides to look her purple shells for her mother, but she can't help but cry while she does so. This unfortunately becomes the reason she loses them.

Marlin and Nemo's relationship

Marlin and Nemo's father-son relationship gets even better in "Finding Dory," as you see the pair learn from each other. Nemo shows his father how to accept others with disabilities and how to encourage them instead of let them down. Marlin is also able to teach Nemo how to let go and how to accept changes, when they believe that they have to lose Dory. Nemo and Marlin's relationship also shows off the light off the previous movie and how they are both thankful for having the experience so that they could learn once more how more they care for each other and what they would do for each other.

Bailey and Destiny

Like with Nemo and Marlin, we are also introduced to two new characters who teach each other lessons as well. Bailey and Destiny, whales from the Marine Life Institute, both teach other how to live with their disabilities. Bailey has an extremely hard time believing that he could use his echolocation and Destiny proves to him that he can, in a time of crisis for Dory. Destiny also learns how to live with her disability by focusing on her other strengths which guide her to helping Dory.

Dory's parents

Dory's parents are very special as they never gave up on Dory. When Dory was younger, they were the ones to teach Dory her motto of "just keep swimming." When Dory went missing, they also did not stop and overcame multiple obstacles together to find her. Once Dory finally finds them, they are both carrying multiple shells to add to their line of shells, to help her find them. They are very shocked and overcome with happiness; as she began to cry, they told her that she found them all by herself and that she was able to do it.

Dory and Nemo's Relationship

Dory and Nemo's relationship is also extremely important as Nemo does not have a mother. Due to this, he attached the thought of Dory as a mother figure and he obviously so truly cares for her. He is able to learn from her how to live with his disability and how to trust his father's intentions for him. When Dory comes back for Nemo and Marlin, she tells them they she truly feels as if they are also her family. This makes Nemo look her in a way that we have not seen Nemo look at anyone else as.

The overall concept

The concept that disabilities do not stop you from achieving your goals is ultimately what made me love "Finding Dory." All of these major characters suffered from a sort of disability, and everyone learned from each other about how to live and learn from them. It helps me feel as though I, too, can do such a thing, as I suffer from both anxiety and ADD. "Finding Dory" is a great movie for those who need to remember how to believe in themselves and learn from their weaknesses.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
