Why I Fell In Love With Alpha Xi Delta

You were always xi one for me

Why I Fell In Love With Alpha Xi Delta
Michelle Toscano

Going into college, I had no plans to rush. I had nothing against the idea of being in a sorority, but just never considered myself the stereotypical sorority girl. I had always been a person to have a small, close-knit group of friends, so the idea of having so many sisters seemed overwhelming and a little unrealistic to me. After all, how is it possible to have an actual relationship with so many people? I wondered that until I met the beautiful sisters of Alpha Xi Delta (shout out to the lovely Iota Nu chapter at Monmouth University). Here are a few reasons I fell in love with xi best.

1. The sisters.

From the first sister I met, I immediately knew these were my people. Every single one of my sisters is different and unique in their own way and completely real and down-to-earth. As someone who values these traits dearly, I am forever grateful to have met so many lovely ladies with the same values as myself. My sisters are funny, sarcastic, hardworking, and know how to have a good time whether that involves staying in or having a night out.

2. The sisterhood.

I know it may be hard to believe, but I would be there for any single one of my sisters and I know that they would do the same for me. Whether it’s to have a shoulder to cry on after a broken heart or just because I’m in search of a gym buddy, my sisters are always just a phone call or text away.

3. The philanthropy.

Autism Speaks is an organization that has truly found its way into my heart. The one thing I love the most about my sisters is that we volunteer because we want to. I know that we are all eager to help and are passionate about our philanthropy and that making a difference really does matter. There’s nothing that makes the soul feel better than helping others with those you love right by your side.

4. The whole.

It’s true when they say you’re a part of something bigger than yourself. Being a sister of Alpha Xi Delta has allowed me to be a part of an organization I am proud of. It has built me into a confident, well-rounded, and successful woman. It has truly brought out the best of me and has helped me to change the worst.

5. The parts.

There is nothing like knowing you have somewhere you belong. I know that I found my home in Alpha Xi Delta and that my sisters and I are the parts that make this sisterhood so wonderful. “My heart isn’t red; it’s double blue and gold.”

TFJ, sisters!

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
