Why I Fear A Trump Presidency

Never has America been so divided, since of course what trump refers to as "when America was great."

Why I Fear A Trump Presidency
Think Progress

Before all of you get angry with me I would like to clear a few things up: I understand he is not a dictator and this is still a democracy, no, I do not think you are a racist for voting for him and no, I do not hate you.

Recently all of my social media has been bombarded by either fellow liberals calling Trump supporters the "scum of the earth" among other things, horrible stories of what people have done to others since his win and conservatives saying "build that wall." These are all disgusting reactions to what was the most controversial election in American history.

We should not hate one another, for that will drive us further apart. We should love more in order to defeat this hate. What I have seen from this chapter in American history is hatred, misunderstanding, and extreme violence. Trump voters, I do NOT think you are bad people or that you are racist, sexist, etc. I believe that you cast your vote for someone who is openly racist, has a rape trial set for next month, is xenophobic, talks disgustingly about women, wants to have a wall between us and Mexico and wants to have all Muslims identified and compiled into a list. I can completely understand why you feared having Hillary as your president, but not as much as I have feared this man being the face of our nation.

America is a democracy, however, when your president is a vile man with horrible values AND all of the House and the Senate are controlled by republicans, it is not fair to say it we are equally represented. Because of the system we have in place, it will make it much easier for him to take away certain rights of others because many of our representatives align with his values. This is why we must cast out the electoral college system. It essentially places more or less value on your vote based on where you live.

Yes, Hillary has flaws, but she has never said such terrible things about any of those groups of people as Trump has. I understand and accept the decision America made on November 8th, but I do not understand why 46% of eligible voters chose not to vote. So maybe you hated both of the "main" candidates, but there are so many other candidates, like Gary Johnson. If all of that 46% voted for him, he would be our president-elect. So many other countries are dying for their right to chose their leaders, and somehow people still choose not to? Women and African Americans have not been able to vote for even a full century yet, and people still chose not to take advantage of their American rights?

I fear the trump presidency because of the anger and violence is has already spit into our homeland. I fear the Trump presidency for myself as a woman, my friends as members of the LGBTQ+ community, my friends who are POC, my friends who are Muslim, or even look Muslim, I fear for sexual assault survivors and I especially fear for those who do not see the evil this man has already instilled in this country. I hope and pray that we do not see the worst case scenario in this election, I hope we can all come together and stand up for minority rights. I hope we can learn to accept and love one another more. I hope for a better America. I hope to move forward. I most definitely do not hope to go backward into what Trump refers to "great America." I hope we all learn from this.

Dear High School Friend Group,

My sweet angels, where would I be without you guys. We all grew up together because we either met in middle school or high school and watched each other grow up and get "old." We got to go to prom together and then graduate together. Then watched each other as we continued our lives in college, joining sororities and meeting people who will impact our lives forever. It all has happened so fast.

Oh college, we can’t live with you, but we can’t live without you. It’s a love/hate relationship, really. College is an experience that no one can ever prepare you for, and maybe that’s a good thing. You never really expect any of the things that college encompasses until you are there. College is fun, but don’t have too much fun. C’s get degrees, but they don’t get you into graduate school.

Blair Waldorf

The "Gossip Girl" series may be over, but Blair Waldorf's iconic character lives in our hearts forever. Blair was the queen of the Upper East Side, and a character you either loved or hated. She taught us everything we needed to know about life, love and of course, how to score a Chuck Bass. So the next time you feel a bit lost and are in need of guidance, look no further than to the Queen B herself.

As I spend my Sunday avoiding my homework and other adult responsibilities, I realized that I've watched this series over and over about a million times. Sadly, there isn't a Blair quote I don't know, so I came up with a list of a few favorites. You know you love her...xoxo
