Up until college, I never experienced a place so stingy about ranch dressing. Almost every restaurant in Farmville that you go to will charge you an extra 50 cents for ranch and it makes no sense to me at all.
Ranch is just a dressing made up of some combination of buttermilk, salt, garlic, onion, mustard, herbs, and spices, mixed into a sauce based on mayonnaise, or another oil emulsion. Sour cream and yogurt are sometimes used in addition to or as a substitute for buttermilk and mayonnaise.
Now, I understand that many restaurants make their ranch homemade, and while this may begin to justify an upcharge, I repeat, it is just buttermilk, salt, garlic, onion, mustard, herb, and spices. IF they are making it homemade, it is only costing them 46 cents an ounce. IF they are pouring you some Hidden Valley, it's only 14 cents an ounce.
From the hungry college student who just wants to dip her fries or chicken tenders in some ranch dressing, can we reevaluate if charging extra for a tiny cup of ranch is really necessary? Granted, I know you must make a ton of money with this strategy, it's honestly just silly and annoying.
