It might only be my second year to participate in fantasy football, but I am already sinfully addicted to it. There's something special about being in charge of a team that you have no control of. Although you don't have to be athletic to join a league, you need to be mentally strong because things can get heated during the fall months.
Let's take a look at why fantasy football is such an amazing thing.
YOU get to be in charge.
You can ask people for help with who to play, but at the end of the day, you get to make any and all executive decisions. It is rare these days to have total control of something, so fantasy is a way to feel like you are the boss.
Non-sports fans can get involved.
You don't have to like a certain team or even like football in general to enjoy fantasy. You can imagine it as a business (and sometimes it is), and you simply want to see your product in motion.
Your lazy Sundays just got better.
It has become a tradition to spend Sunday afternoons sleeping and watching football. Now, you still get to do that, but now you feel like you're actually being productive, or at least I do. Watching your team win makes you feel a level of importance, so your afternoons can now go to seeing your team win.
Friendships are made.
People bond over fantasy football. There are people in my league who I already knew, but we now have a common ground. There are people who I've never met who are in my league, and yet we trash talk like we're best friends. Speaking of which ...
You learn how to trash talk.
This is that being mentally strong thing I discussed earlier. Nothing people say in their leagues should be taken personally, but you will learn how to be mean. It's always good to show confidence, as it's acceptable to have a modest level of arrogance. If somebody crosses the line, just hope you beat them and they'll get quiet.
These are just a few of the positive things that come from fantasy football. If you want to join a league, it's not too late. There are several week-long leagues that you can join.
