Why Fall Is The Greatest Season Of All

And it has only a little bit to do with pumpkin spice lattes.

Why Fall Is The Greatest Season Of All

Being an October baby, I might be slightly biased when it comes to the fact that fall is my all time favorite season. In fact, I’ll even try to convince you that fall should be your favorite season too. The truth is that there’s so much more to fall than just Halloween candy and costume parties. It’s full of beauty wherever you look.

One of the greatest things about fall is that it’s a constant reminder of all of the wonderful holidays soon approaching. And I’m not talking about Halloween, although that’s great too. I’m talking about Thanksgiving and Christmas, my two favorite holidays, where love and spending time with family are at the top of everyone’s to-do lists. Cooking holiday dinners with my mom is one of my favorite things to do, and I love the smell of our home during these days. I absolutely love coming home from college and being able to spend much needed time with my family, in the beautiful city of Boise, Idaho. There’s so much to be grateful for during this time of the year, and I love that fall is the perfect reminder of this.

With the holidays approaching comes all of the fall festivities. Everything from pumpkin patches and apple picking, to sipping on pumpkin spice lattes while watching college football, I can’t seem to get enough of it. I love taking daytrips to the local corn mazes with my friends, and while it’s hard to admit, I also love the good amount of time that we spend there, trying to capture the perfect candid photo of us all laughing, surrounded by all of the perfectly orange colored pumpkins. On colder nights, I especially love sitting around a bonfire, roasting marshmallows and telling stories with these same people who mean the world to me.

While these nights can get a little chilly, fall weather is nothing short of perfect. The beauty of the leaves on the trees before winter takes them away is one of my favorite sights to look at. I love the crisp autumn air and the way the breeze blows through my hair. The outdoors looks like a perfectly painted picture during this season, which makes activities like hiking and bike riding that much more enjoyable. On cooler days when being outdoors seems too much to bear, I love taking a trip to the local coffee shop and observing the fall weather through a window as I sip on something hot. And I particularly love all of the outfits that fall weather gives me the opportunity to wear. Boots, sweaters, leggings, flannels, beanies and baseball caps. It’s a no wonder why I always want to go shopping during this time of year.

Fall is by far the greatest season of the four. It’s a season that brings people together, the kind of season in which you can feel the love that’s in the air. It’s a time to make memories that will last forever and spend days with the people you love. Fall brings new adventures and great opportunities, so live each autumn day to the fullest and be forever grateful for this beautiful life we live.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
