Why Fall is the Best Season in Maine

Here in Maine we are blessed to experience all four of the seasons (though winter seems to dominate for the most part). All of our seasons are beautiful in their own ways, but there is something very special about fall in Maine that in my opinion, makes it the best season. Arguably, it is the best all over New England. Here is why fall is the best season in Maine.

The temperature is ideal.

Here in Maine we are used to cold weather, so we tend to complain a lot when it gets hot in the summer, even if hot here only gets up to 85 degrees. We also complain a lot when it's snowy and icy and when it's mud season, aka spring. But there isn't much to complain about in the fall. The beginning is hot but not too hot, and the middle and end cool down to usually in the 50s, which is perfect for wearing fall clothes and light jackets, but not too cold that you have to bundle up or actually wear bean boots. You can still wear cute boots and sneakers without slipping.

Speaking of temperature, we can wear all our nice outfits.

Fall is the perfect weather and excuse to wear sweaters, cute jackets, booties and riding boots, vests, scarves etc., without needing a hat or gloves or big jackets. You don't have to bundle up everyday, but you look cuter and more put together than summer clothes usually allow.

The foliage.

The foliage is absolutely breathtaking this time of year. Tourists often flock to Maine just to "peep" at the leaves, hence why it's called peeper season. There are even train rides dedicated to viewing fall foliage around the state.

Apple and pumpkin picking.

Is there anything better than apple picking in a New England orchard around the colorful fall leaves in a perfect temperature? Plus you can visit the pumpkin patch and pick out your perfect pumpkins, and then head over to the shack to get some apple cider and doughnuts.

Halloween.

New England and Maine are very old and have rich histories. Maine has a lot of notoriously haunted places, which makes this time of year especially spooky and exciting. There are countless haunted houses, hayrides and ghost tours around the state. Just a few are the ghost tour around haunted Bangor and Fright at the Fort at Fort Knox State Park. Plus, we have Stephen King, the horror master.

Fall in Maine just can't be beat. Now you hopefully see why fall in Maine is such a special season, and though short it has a lot to offer. I can't wait for fall to come around every year in Maine.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
