There's no time like fair time.

8 Reasons Fair Season Is The Best Season

As summer is winding down, back to school sales finish up, and kids prepare to face another year of school, one of my favorite times of year has begun: fair season. While this does mean summer is coming to an end and school is only a few weeks away, here are some of my favorite things about fair season.

1. There are SO MANY fairs

I mean, you've got your state fair, county fairs, and local fairs. If you're lucky, they're all back to back weeks. Unless you're involved in all of them, and then it sucks.

2. Parades = free candy

This is more for county/local fairs, but at our street fair kids line the sidewalks with Kroger bags waiting to scoop up the free candy thrown to them by various campaigning political figures and fall sports floats.

3. It will be tolerable to go outside soon

Soon I'll be able to go outside and not melt into a puddle when I stand in the sun for ten minutes. I mean really Ohio, does it have to be quite so humid?

4. So. Much. Food.

Am I going to feel physically sick for the next few days from eating so much garbage food? Probably. Do I have any regrets about that? NO.

5. Diet??? Who is she?

Where else can you buy a literal bucket of cookies? Or a Dole whip in a pineapple? Or cheesecake on a stick? Or girl scout cookies in the summer??? Days at the fair are the best cheat days ever.

6. Looking forward to weird attractions

From visiting the butter cow at the state fair to getting a taco at one specific food truck, fair season has us all anticipating somewhat odd attractions.

7. Dogs everywhere

We may have unintentionally planned our trip to the state fair when all of the dog shows were happening. Boy, am I so glad we didn't wait for the weekend. I must have pet at least twenty dogs, and it made my week.

8. Memories with your family

This is one of the last adventures I'll probably have with my mom before I move out in, as I'm writing this, two short weeks from today. We had a great time at the fair, and I know I'm going to miss seeing her all the time so much. From racing electronic pigs to pointing out cute dogs to each other, I'm glad I got to have one last trip to the fair before I move out.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
