From the first Princess, Snow White, to the newest one, Moana, the Disney Princesses have been Disney's pride and joy. They are some of Disney’s most popular characters, and children all around the world look up to them, but there are plenty of reasons why the Disney Princesses should be everyone’s role model.

They are all beautiful in their own way both inside and out.

They are kind and caring to everyone even animals. They are the not judgmental even when it comes to hairy beasts and evil fairies. They will even lend a hand and fight for you. They know that beauty doesn't just come from looks and that true beauty lies within the heart which is something we all need to understand.

.

They Take chances.

They risk it all for their dreams and for others. Cinderella risked getting in trouble to go to the ball while Merida went against her mother’s wishes fought for the right to control her own destiny. Rapunzel even left the tower she has been in her whole life to fulfill her dreams of seeing the lanterns and Mulan risked her life to save her dad's. A princess is brave enough to take risks for not only others but for ourselves too just like a princess does and that is something we should be doing too.

They are ambitious.

Disney has taught us that a princess doesn’t just rely on luck to achieve their dreams, but they work hard for them too. They are ambitious and loyal. Tiana worked hard to gain her restaurant, Anna was determined to get her sister back and save summer. A princess is much more than a dainty maiden waiting to be saved. Sometimes they have to save themselves to get what they need themselves. We need to want to be the princess of our own story.

They are independent and strong-willed leaders.

All the princesses are courageous and strong. They don’t just play the victim but are leaders themselves. A princess doesn’t need a man in her life. Mulan didn’t need one or to be one for that matter to save China. Elsa stands strong as Queen of Arendelle without a king by her side, and Merida proved to everyone that she can create her own destiny and that they didn’t need a man in it. We should want to be as great of a leader as a Disney Princess.

They understand the true power of love.

Whether that love is from family, a friend, or true love’s kiss a true princess knows and understands the power of love. They understand that the most powerful weapon and antidote is love and know that love comes from anywhere and anything. A princess believes that love conquers all, and that is something that everyone should believe in too.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
