Why Everyone Should RUSH At Least Once

Greek Life is much different than what you see on TV.

There are so many opportunities for you in college. Several majors, plenty of organizations, and lots of new people. College is where many of us find our place in life and decide what road we truly want to travel down. One opportunity that I HIGHLY suggest you trying, is Greek Life.

Have you ever RUSHed before? If not, why? You should definitely try it.

Growing up, I never liked the idea of Greek Life. I only ever saw the "movie" version of it. People partying every night, major hazing incidents, guys hanging all over you. This life definitely is not for me, so when I first came to college, I avoided it completely. I didn't want to be like those people on TV.

However, that's not what Greek Life is all about. While you get to know so many people, you also learn more about your campus and have the chance to help out the community. I constantly heard people talk about what they did in their sororities and I started to reconsider my thoughts about it.

I RUSHed my 3rd year for Phi Sigma Sigma. It was so much fun and I met so many amazing girls. I was really excited to be a part of such an awesome group, but unfortunately, I didn't get a bid. I was really sad about it at first and started questioning what was wrong with me. Was it my hair? Was it my career choice? Was I not nice enough? It wasn't until a week later when I realized that not everyone gets a bid. There's only so many spots and a ton of girls. As much as they want to give everyone a bid, they can only hand out so many. Plus, only a handful of girls get to know you, so maybe they didn't get to know me well enough!

Just because you rush, that doesn't mean you're going to get in.

Even though I didn't make it, it was still an amazing experience. I got to learn more about Greek Life and it changed my entire perspective about it. I also made some new friends that I still talk to today.

Plus, just because I didn't make it, that doesn't mean I can't try again. Some girls actually have to RUSH more than once before they get a bid. This just gives you an opportunity to learn even more and create more friendships within the fraternity/sorority.

Everything happens for a reason.

Sometimes I still wish I would've gotten that bid, but then I remember that everything happens for a reason. When one door closes, another door opens. I might not be a member of Phi Sigma Sigma, but I am now a pledge for Alpha Phi Omega - A Co-ed Community Service Fraternity. I found my home here and I will be able to devote my free time to helping others and making lasting friendships with my brothers.

However, that definitely doesn't mean I won't try to RUSH for Phi Sigma Sigma again next year!

So, I definitely recommend that everyone RUSHes. It was so much fun and a memory that will stick with me forever. I promise Greek Life isn't anything like you see on TV - at least at my university, it's not. Try it out, see how you like it. I promise you will learn some new things and make some lasting friendships.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
