My favorite day of Spring semester is fast approaching: All Campus Sing. All Campus Sing is when all the organizations on Murray State's campus get together to compete in a song and dance competition on the steps of Lovett Auditorium. It lasts from 3 p.m. to 8 or 9 p.m. and is such a big event that some professors cancel classes for it. Even if you can't sing or can't dance or have stage fright, participating in All Campus Sing is definitely worth it.
First off, All Campus Sing is always on Wednesday, so if you have an afternoon class that doesn't cancel, being in All Campus Sing gives you a good reason to go.
Second, you don't have to be great at singing or dancing. Yeah, All Campus Sing is a competition, but it's more about having fun. None of the songs or the dance moves will require you to be an expert.
Participating in All Campus Sing is a great way to have fun with your friends or to make new friends. Rather than binge-watching Netflix, you and your friends can support your student organization and get together to sing and dance. Or, if you're looking to make new friends in your organization or residential college, All Campus Sing is a great way to get more involved.
If you're more reserved or you have stage fright, performing in All Campus Sing can help you break out of your shell and face your fear head-on. At the first rehearsal, everyone is a little stiff and afraid to look foolish or sing out, but by the time All Campus Sing rolls around, everyone is more comfortable and confident. It can be intimidating at first with tons of people swarming the Quad, but you won't be on the steps by yourself. You have a whole group dancing and singing with you.
For the people who love to sing, All Campus Sing is a time when your singing isn't confined to the shower or the car. It gives you an excuse to sing loudly without people giving you weird looks.
For the people who love to dance, All Campus Sing gives you an excuse to dance and practice your dance moves without people judging you.
All Campus Sing is also the only time besides Halloween or Frat parties where it's acceptable to wear a costume. However, the thing that got me hooked on All Campus Sing was the rush of performing. Something about standing up in front of rows upon rows of people and singing and dancing your heart out is exhilarating. The nerves mix with excitement and all your hard work pays off, which leads me to the last reason.
The most important reason you should participate in All Campus Sing is because of the sense of accomplishment you feel afterward. After spending the greater part of the Spring semester practicing, All Campus Sing arrives and you get to realize what you've been working for. You perform the best you can, cross your fingers that your group wins and spend the evening watching performances with friends.
