There is honestly nothing I love more in this world than sitting down and reading a good book. And when I say good I don’t mean “oh it’s okay, I read a chapter a night to finish it.” No I mean good as in I start and finish the book in the same night. Good as in I forget the world and everyone in it and jump into the world that is my book. To me it is so cool to be able to leave your world and enter a whole new one in the form of a book. You get to leave behind whatever stress you may have and completely immerse yourself into your book and its characters. When I read a book I get emotionally invested and I truly believe that this is the best way to read a story. What’s the point of a reading a book that doesn’t affect you in any way?

I have always loved reading. I was that kid in elementary school who didn’t have any friends so I stayed in from recess to read. Now most of the time little kids like reading books but eventually this fades as they realize technology like video games exist and to some are more fun than reading. However, I never lost my love for reading. If anything it has grown over time. Reading brings me happiness in a form that I don’t receive anywhere else in this life and for that I am so grateful.

Now I think I have my mom and her book club to thank for falling in love with reading. I grew up watching (and still am watching) these same ten of women meet on a Friday out of month to discuss the book of the month. While there was always some gossip and only part of the night included talking about the actual book I still thought it was pretty neat how a group of women all the read the same book and came together to discuss the story. I watched my mom sit down every night and unwind by reading a book and eventually started reading my book on the couch next to her. This kind of became our thing. There is no doubt that her love for reading has been passed down to me; just another thing to add to the list of thing I needs thank my mother for.

I have read all types of books of all different genres but the New Adult genre is by far my favorite. It has stories that as a college kid I can relate to and is overall a great new book genre that has recently emerged in the last few years. While my mom hates me for this I am a sucker for a good romance book. Even though the plot always tends to go as followed; boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, boy loses girl, boy get girl back, I never seem to get tired of this routine. I love meeting the characters in a book and entering their world. I tend to even fall in love with book characters if it is that awesome of a book. And my favorite thing of all about books? Well that’s creating a picture in my mind about what the story would look like in real life. Creating a whole new world in my mind never gets old.

So if you’re not normally an avid reader I say give reading another chance. Go online or go pursue a book store and search until you find a book that seems interesting to you no matter what that book may be. Then sit down, forget all your worries, and let the book take over. Being able to read books is honestly such a great treasure that this world has to offer and I only wish more people took advantage of this as I do. So finish your Netflix series, go find a book, and be amazed.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
