Why Everyone Should Have An Older Friend

They've Been There, Done That.

Why Everyone Should Have An Older Friend
Personal

True friendship and good advice are things that are hard to come by. Having a true friendship with good advice is even harder to come by. Having an older friend means having a friend that has been through the obstacles that you are currently trying to defeat. Here are some other great features of why everyone needs to have an older friend

They have been through the things that you are going through now

They've been your age and more than likely have been through whatever hardship you're stuck in. They have gone through that boy problems, the friend problems, the school problems, and so so many more that you're trying to figure out.

They are the best advice givers

Having been through everything, they know what to say and how to say it. Their advice is trustworthy because they can back it up with experience.

They are better listeners

Sometimes friends our own age are preoccupied with their own crazy drama that they don't give your problems that attention that you feel it needs. Having an older friend, they will set aside time to listen and give that amazing advice.

They have better taste in music and movie to share

Let's face it, music and movies today are slacking a bit. 90's media is where it is at and your older friends know just what is the best and they are ready to live up their childhood.

They are willing to help with school work

They may have hated school when they were in it, but some things stick and hopefully what stuck is what your next test is on because they are ready to show off their memory skills. I'm not gonna lie, my older friend has taken a test or two for me in the past, but that just shows what good study skills can do for the future.

They have a different perspective on everything

I'm all about hearing other people's opinion, even if I don't agree with it. Some friends may just tell you what you want to hear but an older friend is someone who will tell you what you need to hear.

They remind you that you have a lot to learn

Sometimes at 21 I feel like I know everything, I am very wrong to think this. Being reminded that it's okay to not know everything is something I thank my older friend for. They are someone to help guide you through life without being your mother.

They can problem solve quickly

With having more experience they work well under pressure. When you need travel or school help they are there, or even if you need help making a cheese quesadilla at midnight they are definitely there.

They can have simple fun

Although they still enjoy playing 21 with you on Friday nights out, they are also very content with spending the evening with Ben & Jerry's and catching up on the latest episode of the Real House Wives.

They are always there for you

They aren't into the drama that tends to follow people my age, they are your friend because they want to be, and that's something I want to be when I'm their age.

Thanks Whit for all the great advice along the way

Happy Birthday

-xoxo

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
