Once upon a time lived six-year-old me, who was privileged enough to have the coolest older sister to introduce her to the magical world of cute boys, catchy music and choreographed dance moves. CD after CD, and after watching the “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” music video on VHS about 100 times, it was safe to say I had grown a tad obsessed with The Backstreet Boys. From then on, I idolized the ground Nick Carter walked on. Unfortunately for me, they were no longer touring. While I hoped for a tour, the rest of the band had different plans. AJ went to rehab, Kevin left the band to be a “normal guy” (really original Zayn, Kevin did it first) and then Nick Carter came out with a solo album, now this I'm not complaining about. And before I knew it, the Backstreet Boys were over. No more new music. No more choreographed dance moves. Backstreet would not be back.
Fast forward many years and many different boy band obsessions later, the Backstreet Boys returned--ALL OF THEM. YES, EVEN KEVIN. And they were better than ever. But still, the odds were against me and I missed each opportunity to see them live. That was until this weekend. YEP, IT HAPPENED. And to be honest, it might have changed my life a bit, and the six-year-old spirit in me came out and peed herself a tad bit. Just kidding, not really.
I’m writing this today, because not only do I need to put my experience into words so that I can cherish it forever, but I also want others to experience the magnificence that is the Backstreet Boys live.
Now back to why everyone should see them. First of all, every song is a hit. Every. Single. One. Try and argue that? You will lose. It is a proven fact that each of their songs is a jam, even the slow ones. They will pull at every string in your heart.
Now, besides the hits, these guys can actually sing. It’s not the "fufu" autotune music we hear nowadays. These guys' harmonies? I don't even have a metaphor to help describe the glorious noise, because NOTHING DOES IT JUSTICE. Nothing. Not even comparing it to Nutella works. And I really love Nutella.
Thirdly, how can one not thoroughly enjoy grown men executing flawless choreographed dance moves? Not only is it super underrated, but it’s hilarious and hot at the same time. I didn't even know those two adjectives could go hand in hand when it comes to dance moves, but because of the Backstreet Boys, they do.
And lastly, just when you will think the concert is over, and that they didn't perform your favorite song, and their most famous song, “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back),” and you try to pretend you're not disappointed because besides that the rest of the concert was so great, THEY WILL RUN BACK ON STAGE, SCREAM "BACKSTREET'S BACK," AND GIVE YOU WHAT YOU CAME FOR. And I don’t mean the song, I mean NICK CARTER HIP THRUSTING WHILE SINGING THE SONG. Now if that doesn't persuade you to buy tickets, I’m super concerned for you. Backstreet's back people - don't miss your chance to witness greatness.
