Why Everyone Should Donate Their Hair at Least Once

I’ve had long hair my whole life. As a child, my hair was down to my hips and as I got older I've kept the super long hair style. I've realized that super short hair does not look good on me due to my frizzy wavy/curly hair.

The month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Last October, I decided to cut my long locks in order to donate them to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. They make donated hair into wigs and give to cancer patients for free. I couldn’t think of a better way to give back and help someone in need. I can't imagine how hard it must be going through chemotherapy and losing your hair, and I felt selfish because of how obsessed with my own hair I was. I knew donating it would help some girl out there smile and feel beautiful. It took awhile for me to manage the courage to actually go and get it cut off because I really just don’t believe in haircuts; I finally went. I cut 11 inches off my hair to donate to Pantene Beautiful Lengths.

This is a before and after of my hair donation last year!

I would definitely recommend donating your hair if you haven’t before. Especially if you are feeling a big change, donate it. Do it this month and help someone in need out! Most places require 8 or 12 inches of hair, and some hairdressers will put your hair in two ponytails for double the donation. When they cut your hair, it will be in a ponytail so the hair is all together. Some organizations may not accept color treated hair, so check with the organization before you decide to donate. It was definitely a great experience and once my hair gets really long again I plan on donating it again.

Some great places to donate hair/ look into:

Pantene Beautiful Lengths

Pantene gives wigs FOR FREE to those fighting cancer. This organization only requires 8 inches of hair to donate. This is the one I donated with!

Wigs for Kids

This organization isn’t just for cancer patients, but those who suffer from hair conditions and burns as well. This organization requires 12 inches of hair

Wigs 4 Kids

This foundation benefits the Childhood Leukemia Foundation and requires 10 inches of hair.

Locks of Love

They donate the hair to those with any sort of hair loss. These pony tails need to be 10 inches. I donated to Locks of Love back in 3rd grade for the first time.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
