Reasons of why everyone should take time away from technology; it will be good for you to not be looking down, less strain on your neck, won't get carpal tunnel, cause that's what happens when you have constant repetitive motion in a wrist joint, you can socialize, not through a phone!
Awhile back a rainstorm knocked out the cable and wifi, not only could I not watch American Horror Story: Roanoke but I realized how much technology has taken over my life. How my phone is connected to my hand by a chain and that chain is the power cord. I can only go as far as the power cord will let me, not literally but once my phone is almost dead the only thing I care to do is charge it!
No wifi is like the end of the world. AHHHHH can't check what all the cool things everyone else is doing, while I just sit here and ignore all my responsibilities.
Technology is a wonderful innovation, but at the same time, it is our demise. It has us so consumed with its pretty colors, cool apps and technological advances that it is quite difficult for us to put it down.
I look around at others in my community and pretty much every person has their head down looking at their phone. Walking on the sidewalk, looking at a phone, eating, people looking at a phone and not conversing with those around them. Walk into a classroom, before class has start everyone is looking at a screen, few are conversing but let's be real, it's not the same anymore. When we were kids, all we wanted to do was talk during class, now communication has become awkward. Now it is showing videos to each other or not paying attention cause our phone has become a distraction.
Not all technology is bad, not saying we should all go back to the stone age and give up all the amazing improvements we have made towards our daily lives, but simply take a break every now and then. When used for educational purposes, long distance communication or for a short amount of time for entertainment, it isn't bad. Constant usage can be a problem!
This scene is from Barbie: A Pony Tale. Skipper the girl holding the tablet is showing Barbie (her sister) the picture she just found on the web of the Alps, saying the pic looks so real. Not realizing that technology has blinded her from seeing what is right in front of her, the "real" Alps. Yes, I have seen all the Barbie movies!
The Alps
If you go on a trip and see something awesome, of course, take a picture, but don't stay on your phone the entire time, that is a waste of being on a trip.
On leave, from work? Do not bring work with you on vacation. You are on vacation, not at work, sometimes it can't be helped, but minimal work should be done, just not the entire time!
Honestly, I wouldn't be able to live without my phone, I've tried to convince myself to not touch it until homework was done, but that didn't work before.
Going to try this again, from now on I am going to try to only look at my phone after homework unless I get a text message, then just a quick peek and put it back down till I have finished homework. Am I going to last the entire endurance of homework with absolutely no technology, not possible, I mean I am using a laptop now just to type this; need and will use technology when I need it for classes and attempt to limit my down time of just looking on my phone.
