Why Everyone Loves UW-Madison

The word love might even be an understatement.

Why Everyone Loves UW-Madison

It's that special time of year again that everybody LOVES oh so much. SCHOOL IS ABOUT TO START. In all reality though, not many people are actually fans of this time of year. You hear the grumbling and mumbling about getting school supplies, having to do homework and no longer being able to sit out in the sun tanning the day away. There are, however, a few people that are HUGE fans of school starting. Okay, not a few people but really thousands of people. And who are these thousands of people? UW-MADISON STUDENTS. They can't WAIT until school starts. So the question other people wonder is: why does everyone love the University of Wisconsin - Madison oh so much?

1. One word: TERRACE.

For those of you that have never been on the terrace, it's hands down one of the greatest places in America. Picture this: colorful chairs, music, laughter, boats riding the waves, sunshine and UW-Madison's very own Babcock ice cream. It's a perfect place to go if you're looking to make some new friends, enjoy the outdoors or scope out potential future boyfriends.

The best place to sit on a warm summer day.

2. SPORTS. SPORTS. SPORTS.

Let's be honest, UW-Madison has some of the greatest sports teams in the nation. Whether it's a basketball game at the Kohl Center, football at Camp Randall or a volleyball game at the Fieldhouse, let me tell you, all we do is WIN WIN WIN, NO MATTER WHAT. Going to this Big 10 school is probably one of the best choices you can ever make because EVERYONE knows who the Badgers are. EVERYONE. Umm hello, CAN YOU SAY NCAA MARCH MADNESS MEN'S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME?! BECAUSE WE CAN!!

That's right....He's in the NFL now! Only all-stars here!

3. The atmosphere.

One time, my good friend who goes to Minnesota (uh....) asked me if they could tell me something as long as I kept it a secret. Of course I said yes and soon enough he whispered something in my ear. It went a little something like this:

"Okay don't tell anybody but Madison is actually pretty cool. The people here are super excited about everything, and I feel like the Badgers are just one kind of big, chill family. Sometimes, but only sometimes, I wish I went to Madison. Sometimes, I wish I was a Badger."

BOOM. You heard it right here. Even MINNESOTA GOPHERS want to be part of the BADGER FAMILY and the atmosphere that surrounds Madison. But then again, who wouldn't?

Who wouldn't want to be surrounded by this much fun all of the time?

4. Academics are on point.

Sure, us Badgers love to have fun but when it comes to school, we are on that grind. There is no off season for us. Every Badger knows that UW-Madison is a WORLD RENOWNED university that people from multiple countries come to just to get of a taste of the knowledge and wisdom that spurts from within. From research to arts to engineering, UW-Madison has made so many ground-breaking discoveries that has changed the world we know in so many different ways. Not only do Badgers discover and create but we learn. Students are filling their brains with a plethora of knowledge that give each and everyone of us the capabilities to help this world in some way. Huge shoutout to all those professors that make that happen! You rock!

Although the organic chemistry is hard, UW-Madison students work harder.

5. Everyones favorite four letter "F" word: FOOD.

First of all, UW-Madison makes their very own ice cream. I feel like that should be pretty self-explanatory but it's not. This isn't just ANY ice cream. This is Babcock ice cream. They make more flavors of ice cream than you could ever imagine. Not feeling chocolate or vanilla? Try some Pineapple Cake flavored ice cream or maybe some Mocha Macchiato. Even if you're not feeling ice cream, hunger can always be satisfied with Ian's Pizza located on state street. Whether it's for lunch or a 3 am snack you can NEVER go wrong with a slice of Ian's Mac-N-Cheese pizza. And let me tell you, those are just two of my faves. Come visit Madison and you'll see the rest. The possibilities are endless.

Can't decide on one flavor? Try them all!

6. BUCKY BADGER.

Bucky Badger isn't a mascot. No, Bucky Badger is a part of the family. OUR family. And if that doesn't explain why everyone loves UW-Madison then I don't know what does.

Forever and always, our favorite Badger you'll be.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
