I have always been a concert fiend. My first one was my freshman year of high school, and I remember the entire setlist and everything they did. After that every chance I got I went to a concert. I have been to so many by now I can't remember the number, but trust me it has been a lot.
This weekend I went to my second festival, Music Midtown. I fell in love with the atmosphere and the people when I went to my first festival so I was bound to love it again. Little did I know it was going to be even better than my first one.
The line up was absolutely fantastic, and I got to see some bands that I have always dreamed of seeing. From The Killers, to Twenty One Pilots, to Alabama Shakes, I was freaking out the entire time.
The environment at concerts is always fun because usually you are all like minded and everybody is so sweet. People are caring and helpful, and there is never a time that I do not make friends with the surrounding people at a concert.
At every stage we went to this weekend my friend and I made a few new friends.
Of course there are bumps in the road at any sort of function. This weekend Mother Nature decided to turn against us and it rained really bad Sunday. It wasn't just for an hour or two either. It was for nine hours straight almost.
They evacuated us due to inclement weather, but an hour and a half later we were let back in to finish the fun. There was mud everywhere and it kept raining. I am pretty sure my feet will never look normal again because of how much they resemble prunes at the moment.
The rain added to the experience in the end. No one cared about how they looked, and we were all so care free that it didn't matter that we could all wake up with colds tomorrow.
It began pouring again during Grouplove's set, and people started crowd surfing, and I got on my friends shoulders. It was a blast, and everyone kinda bonded over it.
To end the weekend we all gathered around Electric Ballroom to see The Killers. It was nostalgic for many since it was some of our childhoods, or young adulthoods that were being touched by this one band. As "Mr. Brightside" went to begin their set everyone began freaking out because who doesn't want to hear that song live? It is iconic. As they ended their set it was crazy to think that I just heard the band that plays one of my favorite albums of all times, "Hot Fuss."
Now it is back to the real world. It was nice to escape for the weekend, but now I must go back to school and work. There will be so many more festivals in the future. There has to be.
If you have never gone to a festival I recommend experiencing it at least once in your life. There is so much to do and to gain from one.
