Why Every Person Needs A Dog In Their Life

Why Every Person Needs A Dog In Their Life

From the time I was 6 years old, I used to beg my family to get me a puppy. Growing up, we had a Rottweiler/German Shepherd-mixed who lived to be 15 years old. After she passed away, I begged and begged my mom and dad to get me my own dog. Luckily, I was fortunate enough to receive a Yorkie for Christmas. Since then, me and my dog, Milo, have been inseparable.

Milo lived with my dad at his house, but causally came to stay with me during the week while I was at my moms. It's true what they say about dogs being a man's best friend. My dad and our tiny puppy loved each other. It was also so funny to see my dad, who was a pretty big guy, walk around a tiny little dog around the block. When he would wake up for work in morning, Milo knew that he was leaving right away. This shows that dogs are just as smart as people. They have a personality of their own. Milo's varies from time to time from being a sweet, loving, dog to being an annoying little shit, but I love him either way. When my dad passed away, it was crazy how my dog knew right away that something wasn't right. He slept in my dad's room that night, waiting for him to come home, which sadly, never happened. Dogs are incredibly clever and they know when something isn't right. When I'd cry in bed at night after the passing, it was always Milo who would come in, lick my face and cuddle.

My mom and her boyfriend also have a dog, so now I have two. When they first told me they were thinking about getting a Pitbull, I was nervous to see how Bosco would get along with Milo. When they first met, Milo was scared and threatened by him. But now, they're the best of friends. They went from running away and hiding from each other to walking side by side. When we take both of the dogs for a walk, Bosco, the Pitt, walks in front and casually looks behind him to make sure Milo is keeping up. They even sleep next to each other every once in a while.

Dogs will literally put their owner and their family before themselves any minute of any day. Whether it's running to the door when they hear something outside in an effort to protect or barking at a creepy person walking near me when I walk them; my two dogs have my back no matter what. They make my good days worth while and my bad days a little brighter. I think every person should own a dog at some point in their life. They're expensive, they take a lot of patience and hard-work; however, knowing that an animal, a dog, would do anything to make youhappy and protect you is something that every person should realize and that's why every person should own a dog.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
