Friendships are a very interesting thing. There is certain place in every girl's heart for her best gal friend that she has known since fifth grade, the girl that she met two weeks into college that shares her personality, and the coworker that she makes plans with after work to go get their nails done. I have some amazing gal friends, don't get me wrong, but at the end of the day, there is just one place in a girls heart that can only be filled by having a guy as a best friend. You will hear the friendzone jokes every time you turn around, and you will get questions all of the time of people assuming you are together, but who really cares? Here are eight reasons why every girl needs AT LEAST one best guy friend in their life.

1.They tell you what you need to hear.

It is so difficult to find people that will tell you what you need even if it isn't what you want. As a girl, I get into my whiny rants sometimes that are just unnecessary. It's so great to have a friend that says, "Hey have you listened to how you sound recently?" or, "You may wanna dial it back cause you sound crazy."

2.They boost your ego.

Even though they may not be serious, guys always have a way of seeing you like you couldn't see yourself. Girls smile and tell you that you are great, boyfriends will tell you what they think you want to hear, but no opinion means as much as a guy friend's.

3.Who can give better guy advice than a guy?

I feel like relationship advice always goes the same way when you are talking to your gal friends. "No way girl, I totally feel you. I don't know what to tell you." Guy friends are pretty much the best relationship advice you can get because there is no telling how that conversation will go. I've heard everything from. "Well if my girlfriend did that to me..." or, "Yeah, if I did something stupid like that..." to, "Are you serious, why is this even a thing?" Guy friends will tell you to shut up when your gal friends won't. They will tell you when you are wrong about something. But more than anything, they will tell you when you don't deserve something. They will always have your best interest at heart which means not letting you sell yourself short.

4.They will always be the ones to have your back

If I ever need help in any situation, I know the guy friend that I am calling. I know the guy friend that I am calling to stand up for me. I know the guy friend that I am calling if I want someone to joke about beating a guy up. And I know the guy that I am calling if I really do need someone beaten up. Let's face it, there aren't too many gal friends that I can imagine walking into a situation like that with their fresh manicure trying to act all tough. Let's face it, it would be kind of laughable. Why else are guy friends around if nothing else to be body guards that you occasionally eat enormous amounts of food with?

5.They are never okay with letting you be just an okay version of yourself

Girls understand how it is to be a girl, so they are usually more willing to be sympathetic to what you are trying to say. From my experience, the best guy friends are the ones that are going to push you to see things outside of how you have always envisioned them, someone who makes you a better person just by viewing things from outside of your perspective.

6.They never judge you on the way that you look

"Hey just letting you know that makeup and hair or any sort of effort to make it seem like I didn't just crawl out from underneath a rock, it's not happening today." "Whatever, what size pizza are we getting?" Let's be honest, girls judge you for how you look and how you act in a way that guy friends never will.

7.You will learn so much from them

If you try and tell me that listening to a group of guy friends talk about how to pick up girls isn't the most infuriating/ hilarious thing ever, you are lying. Guys have a very interesting view of women, most of which will make you probably hate their guts, but at the end of the day, you do have to admit that they are right about a lot of the things that they say. Really, who else is going to tell you mind games that guys play as a way of getting girls other than your best guy friends?

8.It is totally different than any other relationship you have

Every girl needs a best gal friend and relationships are great, but at the end of the day there will always be some things that are completely different with your guy friends than with any other friend. They are the ones that you watch sports with while splitting outrageous amounts of food. They are the ones that you plan a Grey's Anatomy Marathon with just so you can laugh when they are actually into it. I have so much love for the friendships I have with gal friends, but honestly 99.9% of the time I'd choose a best guy friend. The guy girl best friend relationship is an interesting one, but I really do believe that you will never have a better relationship of any kind than with your best just friends guy.

This post is dedicated to all of the great guy friends that I have in my life. You keep me sane and you drive me crazy. I will never get used to gal friends asking me to set them up with one of my best guy friends or guy friends flirting with one of my friends. At the end of the day though, I really am lucky to have so many different guys in my life that I call best friends and even more guys than that who I look at as a good friend that I know they have my back. I love each of y'all, and I'm so glad I have you to do life with.
