March 8 is International Women's Day. It is a day where we celebrate both the strong women in our own lives and the women who fought so hard to get us where we are today.
On International Women's Day, my Instagram, Twitter and Facebook lit up with inspiring posts of women empowerment. These posts thanked women throughout history who have gotten us to where we are today. Women by the likes of Susan B. Anthony, and even skipping a few generations to thank Michelle Obama, the world's current role model for women empowerment.
All this excitement about feminism and girl power really got me thinking; Why aren't women celebrated like this every day?
Let's celebrate them. Let's celebrate the women who gave birth to us, raised us, and taught us to be strong, bad-ass women. The women's march took place on January 21, 2017, and that gave me hope. Hope that women are not alone in their battle, and that united we can make a difference. I saw this hope and fight die down slowly in the weeks following the march. Seeing this peak in awareness of the issues and the desire to fix them reinstated my faith in the women of the world. We can do this, and we will. Let's make International Women's Day every day. Because women deserve to be celebrated every day.
