Everyone knows who Elle Woods is: a silly sorority girl who got into one of the hardest law schools in America, won a murder case when she was only a first-year and graduated top of her class from Harvard. Most people look at that movie and laugh. It is funny, but it is also incredibly inspiring. Elle taught us many lessons throughout the movie. We learned about life, love and sisterhood. Whenever I am having a bad day, I turn on this movie, I instantly feel better and I am then ready to tackle the world again.
No one believed that Elle should go to law school. They all told her she is crazy for setting her sights too high, and she would never achieve her goal. Even her own parents said law school was not the place for her. Her dad told her law school is for boring and serious people, which she is not. And her mom then mentioned how she was first runner-up for a beauty pageant and asked if she wanted to throw that away. She then proved them all wrong by getting a 179 on her LSAT and securing her place in the Harvard Law School Class of 2004. When Elle gets to Harvard, her ex-boyfriend, Warner, calls her stupid and suggests she finds a better way to spend her time than law school. After that comment, she then sets her mind to proving him wrong, raises her grades and manages to secure an internship with her professor. Someone who is too stupid for law school would not able to do those things. She had no problem proving to them they are all wrong and shows us to never let anyone tell us what we can and can’t do.
Elle is Delta Nu, and like most sorority girls it's her whole life. She proves to us that the bond of sisterhood is forever, and is the type of sister we all want to be. Brook, the woman she is defending, is also a Delta Nu. She shows us what sisterhood is truly about when she refuses to share Brook's alibi. Plus, she won her case without spilling her alibi so that makes her a great lawyer!
After she wins her first case, Warner tries to get her back by apologizing. But she does not go for it. She teaches us to not go back to someone who treats your poorly. Warner only wanted her back because she looked to be a more promising lawyer than his current girlfriend, Vivian. She teaches us to never settle for less than we deserve, and we deserve better than Warner.
So yes, Elle Woods is my role model. But I can’t think of someone better.
