Why Elle Woods Is My Inspiration

For the population who haven’t been blessed with viewing the incredibly hilarious movie that is Legally Blonde, I say you’re missing out on a character that defies the odds and one that you should source as inspiration. I love Elle Woods for all that she has overcome, all that she has achieved, and the fact that she is the everyday woman who can inspire people to continue to believe in themselves.

The movie starts with Elle being dumped by the love of her life, Warner, which she is left in misery. But then she decides to go and win him back. How? By going to Harvard Law School. It’s after she announces her future plan that she’s met with too many doubts and concerns that she won’t get in. But of course her best friends and sorority sisters not only believe in her, but they help her study for countless hours which then in turn helps Elle pass her LSAT’s.

Then once Elle gets to Harvard and runs into Warner she thinks everything will go back to normal and he will want her back since she moved out here for him. She soon discovers that he is engaged to another girl who’s also at Harvard; strike 1. When Elle tries to join a study group that includes Warner and his fiancé, she is met with denial from the fiancé and the fact that Warner won’t even speak up for her/takes his fiancé’s side; strike 2. Later on at a party Elle is talking to Warner about how it’s going to be difficult dealing with school and trying to get this class internship. Warner shoots back with him basically saying that she couldn’t possibly get all that stuff because she isn’t Harvard Law material; and strike 3. This right here is the moment that defines Elle and proves that she is the inspiration that everyone needs.

How does one even react to hearing that you’re not good enough from someone who used to love you? Do you cry and try to move on slowly but surely? Not for Elle. Her sole mission now is to prove Warner and everyone else that ever doubted her that she is in fact Harvard Law material. She studies all the time (even in the hair salon), answers all the questions in class, and works incredibly hard to be rewarded with the internship, one her professor Callahan has, that gets to help on a real trial. But another snag comes when Elle discovers that her beauty and not her brain was the reason she was chose to help with the trail. Elle soon decides to give up on everything since she discovered that everyone was right about her when it came to basing her worth on her outward appearance. But one of her professors gives her advice telling her to go back there and show Callahan that he made a big mistake.

We can all learn a thing or two from Elle Woods when it comes to believing in yourself. Elle demonstrates that perseverance and hard work can really get you where you want to go. All her studying and ignoring what people thought of her pushed her to be better prepared within school and her reward was being able to assist on a real trail and even win the case. She also teaches us that boys don’t need to be our number one concern. Sure she wanted to move across the country to win back Warner, but in the end she realized that she did not need him to make her happy or tell her what she was worth. She did so many things on her own and for herself that it bettered herself in the long run. Elle also peaches that fact that you should always stick to who you are. In her graduation speech she emphasizes “You must always have faith in yourself” and this is something that we must never forget. You can accomplish anything that you set our minds to, but before any of that can happen you have to believe in yourself that you can do it. You will need your inner strength if someone disapproves of what you want to do or questions it. If you believe in what you want then you are golden and will go so far. Thank you again Elle Woods for being you and demonstrating to everyone that when you believe in yourself and work extremely hard that you can achieve whatever your heart desires.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
