Why Elle Woods Is My Inspiration

Legally Blonde is a modern classic that follows the story of sorority girl turned law student, Elle Woods. Elle possess many qualities that I find admirable and inspirational! She is everything that I aspire to be for the following reasons:

Elle’s best quality is her determination.

After her loser boyfriend dumps her, saying she isn’t serious enough, she buckles down and devotes all of her time toward getting to Harvard to prove to him he's wrong. The movie features several montages of her studying with the help of her sorority sisters and skipping parties in favor of Torts textbooks and law terminology. Obviously, Elle understands the importance of reaching a goal and will not stop until she achieves success. Upon starting Harvard, she realizes that it will be much more difficult than she had originally planned and studies harder than anyone else only to end up graduating at the top of her class! Elle shows all of us that hard work pays off!

Elle stays true to herself.

While she interns as a lawyer’s assistant, she takes it upon herself to visit the client and ask for her alibi. The client, however, forces her to a vow of silence, so Elle says nothing. Even when pestered by her fellow assistants to spill the beans, she keeps her mouth shut. She never stoops beneath her moral levels in order to reach her goals She understands the power of hard work and she doesn’t need any help getting to the top, because, let’s face it, she’s Elle Woods!

Elle knows what she deserves.

Once she realizes that her ex-boyfriend, Warner, is a total jerk, she finishes law school for herself and stops chasing after him. She realizes that she can’t find her worth in anyone but herself! If a person can’t support you in your dreams and encourage you to be who you're meant to be, then that person isn’t a good match for you. Thanks for reminding us of that, Elle Woods.

Elle exudes confidence.

She knows how to command a room and doesn’t freak out that she was tricked into wearing a costume to a non-costume party! She owns her bunny tail and doesn’t run away crying (like I know I would). Even though she only enrolled in Harvard Law to win Warner back, she owns the campus like she absolutely belongs there (which she totally does). Elle’s level head and confident attitude create the ultimate recipe for greatness, wrapped up in a stylish, very pink shell!

Last and definitely not least, Elle doesn’t let stereotypes define her.

Although some might initially describe her as a “dumb blonde,” she breaks down the barriers people have set for her and obliterates their expectations like the one-girl wonder she truly is. Elle Woods is an intelligent and independent woman who has ambitions and goals. Just because she is conventionally pretty doesn't mean that beauty is her only positive asset! Elle Woods is understanding of others, and never judges like how others may judge her. She knows who she is and doesn’t let anyone else define her.

If we were all a little bit more like Elle Woods, I think we could achieve world peace.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
