12 Reasons Why Club Drinko Is the Hottest Club in Huntington

In This Article:

To all of my fellow Marshall University friends,

We all know that 4th Avenue towards downtown Huntington is the place to be, especially on the weekend. From iconic, legendary restaurants and stores that have anything you could ever want, to stunning history such as the Keith Albee theater and Redemption Church, it is easily a street full of opportunities, experience, and even a few bars/clubs for those of us who truly want to party on the weekend.

Personally, I am not a big clubber or bar-goer (although I will say that Hot Corner is not too bad for a casual Saturday night hangout before midnight), but for those of you who prefer to work as hard as you party - Club Drink is it for you.

Club Drinko, a.k.a. the good old Drinko Library which is just pushing 20 years old, is a very unique club. It sits right on the edge of Hal Greer Boulevard and right across from 4th Avenue to give you a good view of what you ought not be doing. I especially prefer it at night or during the day on a weekend with nothing to do.

Here are 12 reasons why Club Drinko is the hottest club in Huntingtonand the club where every Marshall University student should go to frequently!

Club Drinko Is Free Entry

Free entry for anybody of any age (during hours)!

If you are familiar with bars or have friends who attend them on the regular, there will most likely be a cover fee. However, with Club Drinko, as long as the front doors are open during hours, anybody can come and go as they please. And for all those 17 in college folks, Club Drinko has got you.

There Are Open Seats When You Need Them The Most

Open to anybody who is bored, swamped with homework, or needs a place to get away while still being on campus!

Unlike most clubs which are only open during the night, Club Drinko is open during the day every day of the week. Granted, just like any other club, Club Drinko is definitely the place to be at night. And lets not forget the 24 hour study center that is only accessible with a student ID after hours. VIP treatment only.

Interesting Inside And Out

With the quirky, modern style inside and out, you can ensure that you will NEVER be bored inside of Club Drinko!

Back in 1998 when Drinko was constructed, there was clearly a lot of ergonomic consideration that went into the design and construction. Thanks to the curves, glass galore, and fun colors, Club Drinko is like being in a futuristic movie, and it still looks amazing even to this day.

It Is A Mini Museum

Art, books, history, technology....you want it, they have it!

On the third floor, which is my favorite floor to go to anytime of the day, there is literally a mini museum. There is a room with a staircase that goes to the fourth floor, but the curvy windows hold all kinds of elegant vases, which is more than enough to keep even the most inexperienced artists intrigued.

These Drinks Won't Hurt You

Starbucks included to top off any necessary energy needed for putting good use to Club Drinko

You are not officially a college student until you have developed a coffee addiction, specifically Starbucks. Thankfully, the creators of Drinko Library are well aware that us college students spend many hours of our college careers working in the library. Club Drinko let's that FLEX tab burn while we power through that last hour of working on that paper.

There Are Computers Everywhere

Club Drinko is always talking technology!

Need a computer? Or do you just need somewhere to work on a desktop that will make you feel more focused? Well, you can thank Club Drinko for always having your back! Whether you are a Mac or Windows user, there are Macs on the first floor along with Windows computers all over the place! If you are a major like I am that does not require a lot of paper writing that leads to lots of printing, then they have printers and scanners at your fingertips; just beware that printing is not free, but computer usage is with any student account.

You Can Have Your Peace And Quiet

Need peace and quiet? Club Drinko is the next best thing to a vacation!

Unlike most clubs which are usually small, crowded and loud, Club Drinko is unique in that it is large, nicely spread out, and fairly quiet with just the right amount of ambiance.

There Is Plenty Of Work Space

Rooms, tables, computer desks...you never have to fight for a seat!

Unlike most clubs where seating is little to none, Club Drinko has plenty of places for you to sit. In fact, for even more peace and quiet, there are free study rooms that can be reserved online for three hours per day. Those are a life saver for group projects. And let's not forget about the lighted tables, plush chairs with flat writing surfaces, and all the space in front of the desktop computers for additional note taking.

If you know me, you know that there is nothing I prefer more on the weekends than to go walking downtown and then hit up Club Drinko. You can't beat the fact that good old D.P. Dough is right down the street for those late night cravings.

Plenty Of Lights

Vivid lights at night make for a stunning view.

Club Drinko is even more of a looker at night. It is nicely lit for safety, too.

No Bar Fights Here

Teamwork leads to success, and Club Drinko is where to start!

Bars/clubs are notorious for fights to break out, which leads to bad memories, broken friendships, and possibly not being welcomed back. Thankfully, at Club Drinko, you can ensure that you are always welcome. There is no reason to fight, and it is the perfect atmosphere for friendships.

A Club For The Well Rounded

Christmas Tree

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
