After deciding to stay home this summer instead of diving head first into summer classes, I've realized that this decision gave me one of the best summers I've had. When constantly wanting a new date night shirt and knowing myself well enough that when it comes to 2 a.m. Cookout i just can't resist, I found myself needing a job. So here I am sharing with you why spending my summer with two year-olds really gave me a great summer.
1. You get pretty awesome nicknames.
Teacher, counselor, and other variations of my name were all nicknames I answered to this past summer. Though it's not exactly what I chose to be called, how can you resist answering to a little human who is talking inches from your face.
2. Your lap is the most wanted seat in the classroom.
Shotgun, anyone?
3. Walking to and from the bathrooms become your daily workout, not to mention one could say I'm now lifting.
"Do I lift?" Yes, 20 children a day on and off my hips. Meanwhile, some how these two year-olds decide they have to go to the bathroom only after I've returned from my 20th trip there.
4. Tanning on the job.
I'm on the playground for hours week; if you're like me you would have worn a tank top while pushing the kids on the swing.
5. I've become an expert "opener."
Trust me, it's a skill. With 20 kids saying, "me, me, me," when asked who needs help opening their lunches, even the stickiest most difficult popsicle is no match for me.
6. Being the first to view their latest masterpiece.
Though they might not be the next Van Gogh, when they wave their paper plate monkey in your face, in that moment they believe they are.
With that being said, this summer has given me some great new skills. Honestly, though, nothing compares to when they release their grip saying, "see you tomorrow," while climbing into their car and knowing that a big hug is awaiting you the next day.
