Why I Don't Really Post About Current Topics

It's not that I don't care.

Why I Don't Really Post About Current Topics
The Telegraph

We all know about the social/political climate in America. There's now a Trump as president, police brutality is still a thing, women's rights have been snatched, our educational system is failing, and our government has begun to unravel. There is an air of hysteria and tension floating over this country right now, as you read this article. With all that is happening, one may wonder why I don't take to social media myself and voice my loud opinion along with everyone else. But at this time, I refuse, and I will tell you why.

Well one, before I can even think about posting, everyone else already has. This doesn't necessarily negate what I have to say, but more often than not, someone has already started a successful conversation about said topic. In about a total of four minutes, my newsfeeds are filled with people saying the same thing. I do share a lot of politically charged posts, but none of them are actual posts written by me. If you want to hear my opinion about anything, don't be scared. Just come to me and ask me!

Despite that point, although I care a lot about these sensitive topics, and I don't like to let myself be distracted, I also don't like to be miserable. No one does, so instead, I'll share some of the laughter and positivity I see throughout the day.

Also, guys, I am black. I am outraged, but I am not surprised. This country has a history of degrading and shortchanging people of color for centuries. While everyone else is finally seeing what's wrong with this country, we finally have more support in our movements for change. Things will change for the better and while it's extremely scary to watch the country you live in fall apart and have our rights snatched from us like the Second Coming, the rest of the country in turmoil can finally say and know the significance of "We Shall Overcome."

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
