Why I Don't Miss High School

Definitely not the best four years of my life.

Why I Don't Miss High School

People always say "High school will be the best four years of your life", well I beg to differ. High school wasn't necessarily bad, but it wasn't the best years I have had. My high school was pretty small, and in my opinion, lacked diversity and opportunity. Therefore, I don't feel like I got as much out of high school as I could have. I'm from a small town, so not much happens there. It doesn't seem like anyone ever leaves there either, it's almost like you're not there and you die there. That's how I assume most of my classmates will be, they'll always be in the same place.

I wasn't really bullied in high school, I just didn't enjoy it. I didn't enjoy my classes, my peers, and all of the restrictions that were given. Even though we were supposed to act like grown ups and be mature. We were supposed to act like grown ups, but had to ask for (and often get denied) bathroom privileges.

High school was a weird time, everyone was changing. Everyone was really getting into groups and finding where they thought they fit, which often times was annoying. There were certain groups a bit more obnoxious than others, but I couldn't really stand any of them. I'm now a sophomore in college and have just realized how most of my high school friends were, and still are, awful.

College has brought me close to some really amazing people. High school never did that for me. I was friends with people back then that I would probably never talk to now. Not because I'm stuck up, but because I have learned what a good and bad person are like. I used to be friends with a lot of bad peoples becaue I had to see them 5 days a week.

College is what true freedom feels like. High school is supposed to prep you for your future, but you're treated like a child the entire time. Even while you're applying for colleges the administration wants to make you feel like you're still in 7th grade. That's something that has always hit me in a bad way.

Like I've said, there are so many restrictions from bathroom breaks to whether girls should be allowed to wear tank tops or not. It's more of a prison than anything else. You're supposed to go in and learn and experience the "best four years of your life", but typically it isn't like that. If high school was the best four years of your life, good for you! That's wonderful, some of us didn't necessarily enjoy the restrictions and lack of opportunity given to us.

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.

To My Loving Boyfriend,

  • Thank you for all that you do for me
  • Thank you for working through disagreements with me
  • Thank you for always supporting me
  • I appreciate you more than words can express
  • You have helped me grow and become a better person
  • I can't wait to see where life takes us next
  • I promise to cherish every moment with you
  • Thank you for being my best friend and confidante
  • I love you and everything you do

To start off, here's something I don't say nearly enough: thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You do so much for me that I can't even put into words how much I appreciate everything you do - and have done - for me over the course of our relationship so far. While every couple has their fair share of tiffs and disagreements, thank you for getting through all of them with me and making us a better couple at the other end. With any argument, we don't just throw in the towel and say we're done, but we work towards a solution that puts us in a greater place each day. Thank you for always working with me and never giving up on us.

Because no one ever really leaves.

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.
