I am a woman, and I do not associate myself with feminism.
In today's world, that's a shocking statement. People assume that just because I am a female, I must be a feminist too, right? No.
The term "feminism" can be defined as the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men. That's what it's supposed to be. If feminism was all about equality, that's a movement I could get behind. And in the mid-twentieth century, that's exactly what feminism was; a fight for equality. However, with modern feminism, that's not the case and there are several feminist ideas today that I simply cannot support.
1. "Abortion is a woman's right."
This is an issue that is very important to me. Feminists claim that it is a woman's "right" to have an abortion if she chooses, not taking the rights of their unborn child into consideration. Since Roe v. Wade, there have been over 55 million abortions performed in the United States. When you think about it, at least half of those babies were females. Over 27 million innocent girls that were never given a chance at life. Where are the feminists rallying to defend them? Instead, they're fighting for women to have the right to end even more lives. How could I possibly support this?
2. Marriage and Household Roles
God gave men and women very specific roles when it comes to marriage and raising a family. Men are to be the head of the household, providing for and protecting their family. Women are called to be the caring and nurturing example for the family. While feminists might disagree, both of these roles are equally important. While I plan on having a successful career in the future, I also realize that my main priority is to be the best wife and mother I can be. Wives are told to submit to their husbands and husbands are told to cherish their wives as if they were rubies. This is how God intended marriage to work, but feminism does not support this. Being submissive, in no way, means being bossed around. It simply means that you allow your husband to take on the incredibly difficult role of leading the family.
3. "Women are victims."
Feminists would have you to believe that just because you are a woman, you are victimized by society. I am not a victim. I choose to dress modestly because I have respect for myself, not because rape culture is forcing me to. I have just as many opportunities for success as men do. If you want to see women who are true victims, go to a third-world country or an area where Sharia law is practiced. Here in the United States, women are not victims.
It's okay to not support feminism.
