Many of us are animal lovers, but some of us are truly dog lovers. I know I'm a dog lover. Almost any dog I see I have to pet it or talk to it or something of that nature. I've been surrounded by dogs as long as I can remember. I grew up with Duke, a German Shepherd and Rottweiler mix, and Luke, a Chow Chow. After they passed on, I grew up with Jazmin. I got her in second grade, and I fell in love with her even though she chased me around the yard and house nonstop. Jazmin is Great Dane, German Shepherd, and Boxer, and I still have her to this day. Once I got to middle school, my friend Brooke Massey gave me Oliver who we named after Oliver Oken from Hannah Montana. Oliver is Shih Tzu mixed with Australian Shepherd, and he's basically my mom's dog now. My roommate has a dog too named Diamond who's a Chihuahua mixed with Pekinese. I know all of these dogs and I'm happy to be around them, but what makes dogs the best pet?

1. They cuddle with you when you have no cuddle buddy.

Your boo doesn't want to come over? Fine. You have your dog to cuddle with.

2. They will eat with you whenever.

They'll be your snack buddy after school or your late night meal partner. They're always down.

3. They'll be your workout partner.

Trying to stay in shape? Your dog's down to stay in shape with you.

4. They are super protective, no matter what size they are.

Big or small, let somebody mess with you. Your dog will tear them up, or attempt to anyways.

5. They love you when nobody else does.

Don't worry, your dog loves you no matter how ugly or cute you are.

6. They feel your emotions.

They know when you're sad, heartbroken, joyful, and tired. Dogs feel the same emotions as you.

7. They keep your deepest, darkest secrets.

I mean, they can't talk. Who are they going to tell your secrets to? Their dog friends?

8. They are always there for you when you think nobody else is.

If nobody has your back, know your dog is always down to ride for you.

9. There are different breeds to fit your living style.

If you're allergic to something or you want a small dog for a family or a big dog for outside, there's definitely a dog out there for you. There are literally tons of breeds to choose from.

10. They are adorable. You can't deny it.

No, seriously. You can't deny it. They are super cute.

I am so blessed to have Oliver and Jazmin, and my cute puppy niece Diamond in my life. They're beautiful animals with so much personality and they bring such joy to my day whenever I get a chance to see them. Dogs are amazing creatures that can love you more than any human can. If you treat them with respect, they will love you forever. If you have a dog or puppy or any type of animal, cherish and love them. I promise you they'll love you ten times more. If you want a dog, you can always check your local pet adoption centers or shelters. You could also foster puppies! There are tons of dogs out there waiting to be loved by you.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
