Why A Dog?

Why I'm A Dog Person

If you're a fan of loyalty, if you're someone who craves companionship, or if you just need something to cuddle with here and there, then a dog is for you! I know they're definitely for me. Most people get a family pet pretty young, it's good practice, helps build character, parents will say all of that. However, from personal experience, a family pet, and not just dogs, become a real part of the family.

I will be honest and say I'm not a fan of cats, not because I'm more-so a dog-person, and they're 'opposite', but because of my own experiences with them. No need to judge a whole species of animal because of assumptions and the outside opinions of others. You need to find out what works best for you by experiencing it. A great way to do that is to try and take care of a pet while someone's away, a friend or family member's probably offered you some money for that at one point in your life.

Anyway, back to the main point, the biggest reason I love these animals, from big to small(though I do enjoy the larger ones better) is because dogs are extremely unique. They don't share a single universal personality, yes, most dogs have similar stigma and mannerisms that can be borderline exactly the same, but they, at the same time, have different quirks, different behaviors, and different ways to go about their day.

I have an English Bulldog, one of the most stubborn and annoying breeds to deal with. I once watched over a bulldog who was very clean, fairly loud, and sort of clumsy. At the same time, she loved being with people, and always striven to be the center of attention. My dog, Rocky, is far different. Even within the same breeds a dog can be unique! My dog's a stubborn, brutish big guy, a bit over-grown, actually. He sees himself on equal footing, if not above everyone in the family save for the 'pack leader', the man who trained him, my father. He is very picky about food and drinking water, and he doesn't really react when we call his name, unless it's my dad, of course, he's far from deaf. Despite all that, It's just hard not to love him!

When you build up your time with a pet, you can grow bonds, even with hamsters, but for a lot of pets, this is something completely one-sided. Like an unhealthy relationship, when you're giving everything and getting nothing in return, there's really not much to change that. Besides ending it, of course, not that you should...end your pets. The point is, dogs return your emotional output, sometimes tenfold! An excitable loving species like Golden Retrievers are among the most loyal breeds of all time. Bulldogs are loyal, but at the same time are lazy, they don't always express themselves, you gotta work for it. The fact that there's so much depth and character to these animals already make them perfect companions.

They're an important part of humanity, proof of our intelligence, and their's as well. The domestication of dogs has been around for thousands of years, and it's that bond we share as different species that allows for such a close relationship within our homes. Dogs will forever be a part of humanity, we love them, we laugh with them(or at them), and we live our lives with our pets in mind. They aren't for everyone, that much is true, but it's hard to deny their beauty!

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
