Why Being A Writer In My Friend Group Can Be Such A Struggle At Times

You heard me, being the writer friend sucks.

You know when you have your squad, and you all have different talents and attributes, but you all get along anyway? Yeah. I do too. Most of my friends are nerds, and art kids. (And a lot of theatre kids. Especially now that I am in college). Okay, but everyone in my friend groups knows I like to write. They know I write for this website. They know I am writing a novel series in my free time (that my sister is still typing up, what a champ). They know I have a boundless supply of journals (I collect journals for me to write in, if you want to donate any, please, hit me up). But then, they read my writing, and love it.

But then the worst happens.

"Hey Jelly! Can you help me write my paper!"

"Jelly can you revise my paper!"

"Jelly I wrote the paper. But it sucks. Please help."

At the first one, I say no.Because they need to suffer like every other college student, and write it out. Now I do not mind revising things. As it helps me in a way too. It helps me see what is effective and what is ineffective.I learn from my peers on how to vary opinion and such. But this. It takes up a lot of my very precious writing time. But revising people's papers does help me try out new sentence variation and combination, I will admit that.

"But Jelly! You wanna be a writer!"

Yes I know that dear reader. But writers and editors are completely different things. Writers write. Editors edit. But alas, people blur the two and it gets tricky. I usually tell my peers and friends who ask me for help, to at least give the paper to me a few days in advanced. Because I, dear reader, hate having to revise something an hour before it is due. I like taking out all my pretty pens and writing comments and then sitting down with the person and their paper and give them suggestions on improvement and all that jazz.

Only like two people follow my advice.

And that drives me nuts. Because then I get the whole "Why can't I write as good as you!" complaints. I drown them out. Because I do give suggestions. I give people prompts to practicing writing about rather than playing mind numbing games on their devices. Maybe I'm just weird. But if you want to get good, then start practicing. I have been writing for a very long time. Am I perfect at it? Of course not. But at least I took a stand, and started jogging to my goal.

So dear reader, do this author a favor. Do some practice writing. Like writing in a journal. Ya know. And don't complain to your writing friends "why can't I write as good as you!"

That is all.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

eye roll

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.
