3 Things That Really Suck About Being A Girl In The Rape Culture Society We Live In

In This Article:

You walk into your car at night. What is the first thing you do? My answer is, lock my doors. It has become almost automatic at this point. You see I work super late at night and my walk from the door of my place of work to my car always makes me surprisingly nervous. I look around my atmosphere before I walk from the door to my car. Seeing if anyone is suspicious or unwelcoming. As a woman, these protective habits we all get into are just a way of life at this point. And it's not just about locking your car doors or watching out for creepy people at night, it's so much more.

1.      Cat-Calling

This is one that makes a lot of girls uneasy, and it should. I see this happen everywhere. At my place of work, on my college campus, in the mall, in the city, out at bars, virtually anywhere. Men make it known fact that he sees a woman he finds attractive and needs to make a scene. Rather than simply approaching the woman, giving her a simple compliment and seeing how she responds. Cat-calling makes women feel as if they are objects. Just simply put here on this earth to be looked at physically and not intellectually. The amount of times I have heard people make comments to me about my appearance, and this is not a nice compliment it is a compliment that is sexual and not exactly something I want to hear when I am running around at work sweating my ass off.

2. Hands to Yourself

Putting your hands on someone, male or female without their knowledge or desire is unacceptable. Every single time I am in a bar, whether it is packed with people are not too busy someone always finds a way to put their hands on my lower back or on my waist. There is literally not a single reason on this planet where a stranger needs to place their hands on a woman to "get around her". It is the biggest bullshit I have ever heard. A few weeks ago I was out at a bar and this guy kept grabbing me and I said to him twice to please stop grabbing me. He continued to call me "an entitled bitch". Essentially he was telling me that because I was not cool with him grabbing me I was entitled… makes sense right? No, women are actually ARE entitled to their personal space and bodies.

3. Not Taking No for an Answer

"Can I have your number?" "No" "Are you sure you can't give me your Snapchat though?" "I'm sure, no" "C'mon just let me get your snap" …. Nagging a female is not going to make her really want to give you any sort of attention. But, chances are you will get your way just so she can be left alone at the end of it. I know many girls who agree to have sex with someone just so he stops nagging her. Do you not think that men would not want to continue to ask after someone already said no? The fact that girls feel so pressured that they just give in and let them get their way.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.
