Why Do We Get Offended By Holiday Greetings?

My religious holidays aren't the only ones that count.

Why Do We Get Offended By Holiday Greetings?
blogspot

For the last couple of weeks, I have noticed a lot of posts discussing what we should say as a greeting to one another over the holiday season. Some people want no warm wish related to religion, while others are infuriated that people want to take the "Christ" out of Christmas. We all know the crazy conversations that ensued after Starbucks decided to change their cups. I'm Pretty sure we almost had another civil war after that one. Honestly, this conversation isn't something that should even need to occur.

We live in a diverse country full of people, religions, and opinions. From November 1 to January 1, there are over 29 holidays celebrated by different groups in our country. I am personally extremely religious, but I would never push my faith onto someone else just as I would hope an atheist wouldn't get all up in my face. My faith isn't the only one that deserves to be publicly shared. So I think, "Who cares?!" Why are we arguing and getting upset over another person wishing us well or not wishing us well the way we think they should? It's ridiculous to expect that every person can read your mind and tell you what you want to hear. It is equally ridiculous to get upset over a person wishing you well in a religious way. They aren't pouring holy water on you and trying to excise the devil. I promise it's okay.

Now for the Starbucks debate. Shut up. Starbucks is not a church, though it may be found in some. They are not making a religious or anti-religious statement by changing the design of their cups. Cups! Stupid irrelevant coffee cups. They are not protesting Christmas and the things it stands for. What they are doing is trying to make a place that every single human feels comfortable going to no matter their religion or creed. Quite frankly it is a smart business move on their part because, surprise, not every person who enters their local coffee shop is Christian. They still have their little holiday cups, but they are moving away from making it religious, and considering they are a company that has never been tied to anything religious. I think that is just fine. So seriously, get over it.

This world we live in has enough hate. Why are we fighting over something so infinitesimal? Spread the love this Christmas season and accept the love in all forms it is spoken to you. Want to say "Happy Holidays"? Go for it. How about "Merry Christmas"? Sure! Well what about "Blessed Kwanza"? Of course! "Happy Hanukkah", "Fanciful Festivus", "Wonderful Winter Solstice", "Happy New Year", "Blessed Day", "Perfect Pancha Ganapati", "Yay Yule", "Cherished Chalica" and even just plain old "Have a nice day" will all suffice for me. As long as you aren't trying to send bad spirit or shed dark light on me, then I will gladly accept your warm offerings. As for me? I wish you all a very very Merry Christmas and all blessings and light during this new year. Share the love, be the light, spread the peace.

birthday party

My birthday has never been my favorite holiday. I've found that I'm more excited to celebrate my friends' and family members' birthdays more than my own. I don't like being the center of attention, so I usually celebrate over dinner with a small group of family and friends. This way, I can enjoy myself naturally without feeling like I have to entertain everyone and make sure they are satisfied. In the past when I've had large parties, I was so nervous that people weren't perfectly content that I didn't enjoy myself at my own celebration.

College Informations

Most of us have already started the spring semester, and for those of you who haven't started yet, you suck.

It seems like coming back from winter break wouldn't really be a break all things considered, since we all come back to school and pick up right where we left off. We know exactly what to expect, yet we're unprepared every single time.

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

You know that all of these things apply to you. You'll just never tell.

CSU

I'm an anthropology major, and I love every minute of it. I couldn't tell you why, but I guess there's just something about studying different lifestyles that absolutely fascinates me. But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
