Why Christians question Catholics is question I have been asking myself and trying to figure out for a long time now. I was raised Catholic and even went to a Catholic school and I honestly have never questioned someone elses faith. I was taught that everyone is entitled to their own opinions and as long as I am firm in my beliefs it shouldn't matter.
The first thing I would like to point out is that Catholics are Christians too. All Catholics are Christians, but not all Christians are Catholics. We believe in the same God and all our beliefs come from the same bible. God is above all in both Catholicism and Christianity.
I have had friends try to get me to come to their Christian church because it was "fun". In my personal opinion church shouldn't be fun. It should be enjoyable and you should get a lot out of it, but if your going to church just because it's fun your going for the wrong reasons. And saying church is "fun" isn't a way to sway people into going to church. The way I think of it is, was Jesus being nailed to the cross "fun"?
I've heard Christians say that our mass is boring. Christians might not understand that all those 'boring" things we do during mass have a meaning. We don't just kneel for fun, bow for fun, bless ourselves for fun. Catholic mass is very reverent and formal compared to what you would see in a Christian church. Neither way is wrong it's just what you personally believe in. All of those "boring" gestures and responses have been going on for thousands of years and will not change any time soon. They stem all the way back to what the apostles did and that's something I appreciate about the Catholic Church.
Next I would like to point out that we do not worship Mary, we recognize her as the Immaculate Conception and Mary, the Mother of God. Mary is the mother of same Jesus both Christians and Catholics believe in. Without Mary, their would be no Jesus and there would be no God so why would we ever disregard her? We do not view Mary as an equal to Christ we simply honor her because of her relationship to Christ. The way we honor and look to Mary does not compare to the worship and praise we give to God.
We also do not worship Saints. Saints are not God so we do not worship them. Becoming a saint is no easy task that takes many years and some parts of the process even rely on science. They are extraordinary people that have powerful prayer and we look to them during prayer to pray with us.
Although these are only a few differences, these are what I tend to see and hear from Christians. Just because someone has a different faith than you doesn't mean their faith is wrong. Everything has a meaning and nothing is done just because. Everyone has their own beliefs and that is what makes the world go round.
