Ever since we were in high school, we had to a choice to pick a place that was home, a place that was the "go to", a place that was the favorite for the year. Then once the choice was made, it was published in the yearbook mock elections and set in stone for our memory banks.

Then a few years go by, you're an adult living your life, achieving your dreams, and taking time to truly find yourself. We all find ourselves in different ways, but they can be generalized through travel, adventure, risk, and high emotions.

With those things come friends, road trips, and new towns. But not just any town, a city; one that is filled with history, adventure, risk, and high emotions.

Detroit. Detroit, Michigan. Population 672,795 (2016). Largest city in the midwestern state of Michigan. Nicknamed: "Motor City". The best place to be year round, a place you won't want to miss out on.

Why Detroit? Well for many reasons truly, but mainly because of the growth, the history, the atmosphere, and the people. Detroit is inspiring, in 1805 the city burned completely to the ground. Through out the years it experienced festivals, sports games, economic depression, industrial growth, and top city awards.

The city has blocks and blocks of retail shops, restaurants, convenient stores. It's protected by the Detroit Riverwalk, its many grass parks, sanded beaches, and residential units.

The atmosphere is filled with Wayne State University students, Quicken Loans team members, Bedrock leasing agents and Day Porters.

In the winter, Detroit is dressed up for the cold, an ice skating rink that fills the land of Campus Martius, a rink that is bigger than New York's ice rink. A huge tree that takes more than a day to get into the perfect position. All packaged right in the center of the city, the main point of Detroit, 1 Mile.

This city is buzzing with people, music, and athletic wins (some of the time). The growth continues through the neighborhoods and surrounding areas. This is the time to explore, adventure, risk, and live through this amazing time for Detroit.

Come downtown, see a Tigers game, go shopping at Nike, Moosejaw, and Under Amour, eat breakfast at Avalon Bakery, lunch at Shake Shack, and dinner at Punch Bowl Social. Get friends and go to the arcade- Ready Player One or the beach bar. Walk the riverfront, try the food trucks, experience Tony Hawk's skatepark, and experience a broadway show at the Fox Theatre.

Take advantage of what you're given, life the live you were meant to live. Detroit is all vamped, pampered, and pre-gamed for this adventure with you. Are you ready? Join the movement.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
