I’ve heard Dorothy talk about it, time and time again, yet no amount of imagination could quite sum up the experience I, along with thousands of others across the globe, lived under the rainbow. For three days and three nights, I had the utmost privilege of limiting myself to the bare necessities of life and all the simplicity that come with it. For three days and three nights I was one with the treetops above me, and the ground below me, and I will never be the same.
Rainbow Gatherings have been prominent for the past forty years, with its population of pure souls blooming in the sunlight that is shed even in the rainfall. Rainbow is a tribe of free spirits abiding only by the laws of Mother Nature herself. Here at Rainbow, people of all ages and all backgrounds have the freedom to act as free individuals without anyone getting second looks, glances, smirks or comments made about them.
It's as though everyone has had their gavels removed and we are no longer made out to be judges of one another. Rainbow Gatherings were invented to promote peace among our nation and display nothing shy of that. Rainbow is an opportunity for people like you and I to see the world through tinted specs, ones that enhance the entire natural light and dim out the darkness that the “real world” tends to carry. With the absence of technology, social media and thinking minds, one might actually have a chance to see what this world is all about.
A man in Hebrew is called Adam, which means ‘from the dirt’. Here at Rainbow, I had a chance to reflect on what that truly means. As human beings, we come from the earth itself. The ground we walk on is more than just below our feet but rather, above our heads, and in our blood. We are made in the rawest form of life, carbon copied not just to our parents, but also to strangers. Without the reflection of it all, the world alone could seem quite terrifying. I’ve learned to see it in a different shade of white.
Rainbow gathers every color, every person and every soul to set them free and fly-- because man surely has wings, if only that man remembers not to clip them off. In the year 2016, it is only natural to be sucked into the vortex of colored screens on our mobile devices and become a bit too tuned into the television playing in the background along with the shouting voice of our friends.
It is easy to forget how much value lies in the silence of the world, as it seems like the world is never completely still. The silence produced at Rainbow is so piercingly wonderful that it conducts an entire symphony with its tranquility. A silence one can hear, extraordinarily amplified while swaying to its beat, under the treetops in a hammock swing. A silence everyone deserves to hear, at least once.
Rainbow Gatherings were created with the intent of sharing something so tangible, you’d be excited to give it away, as it will surely return your way, soon enough. Rainbow was created to share the light of the world and the love of our hearts, with you. Here in the forest, it is so plain to see we are all united under the same sky. This is family. This is unity.
