Why Dahlonega Needs A Cook Out

What everyone is thinking, but the town is not hearing

Why Dahlonega Needs A Cook Out

Dahlonega is seriously missing out on a great opportunity. Almost every other college campus has a Cook Out in its general location. The closest one for UNG-Dahlonega students is an hour away in Gainesville. Oh and don't forget, they have two-- SO unfair. This fast growing restaurant chain is one of the most successful in its industry, especially in college towns.

Here are some reasons why Dahlonega needs a Cook Out:

1. Wendy's, McDonald's, and Steak N Shake's burgers are of incomparable quality

No offense to these businesses-- have you tried Wendy's strawberry lemonade, McDonald's frappucino, or a Steak N Shake milkshake? (YUM) However, when it comes down to their hamburgers, their patties are super thin! Cook Out's burgers are a much more reasonable size and boy, do they taste delicious!

2. Spirit's and Shenanigan's burgers are too expensive

Right now, if you want a good burger, your best bet is Spirit's Tavern or Shenanigan's Irish Pub. These places are great, and their burgers are HUGE! However, you have to be really hungry to finish one of these, and you pay well over $10 for one of these babies. Not to mention these restaurants are bars, too, so you probably are spending a little extra on a nice beverage as well.

3. We are broke college students

Cook Out's food is very reasonably priced. You can get a full meal for less than $5. Most restaurants have deals where you pick two items or one item and two sides. Hello to lots of options for a handful of pocket change!

4. Robyn's Nest has been closed for over a year now

Robyn's Nest use to be the popular burger and hangout spot-- and man was it great! However, it has been closed for around a year and a half, leaving us Dahlonegans without a good burger joint (and cheddar rounds.)

5. Cook Out's cups have encouraging and inspirational bible verses

This may not apply to you, but I know when I'm having a bad day and I see a bible verse, it makes my day 10x better! Cook Out is a Christian-based company and their styrofoam cups are decorated with bible verses at the bottom. As college students, we always need a little encouragement and motivation to get through the day, and Cook Out does just that with its small little details.

6. They not only serve burgers, but barbecue, chicken sandwiches, quesadillas, hot dogs, chicken nuggets, corn dogs, and wraps.

There is seriously something for everyone. If you are gluten free, bless your soul, and maybe try a coke?

7. Their food is delicious AND fast

If you haven't tried their food, you have no idea what you are missing. Somehow their food is great, yet they are still a fast food restaurant. It is totally a life changing experience. Grab your friends, drive to Gainesville, and see what it's all about.

8. Cook Out is open super late

As college students, we stay up super late studying (and some nights partying.) After midnight, our only food options are McDonald's and Steak N Shake. Cook Out is a much better option! Hands down.

9. The business would help the town's economy

There is no doubt about it Cook Out would stimulate the town's economy. Some people may worry it would take away other restaurants' business, but I think otherwise. Every restaurant we have has its own loyal customers (I'm guilty of Zaxby's and Chick-fil-A) and these customers aren't going anywhere! Not to mention, adding a Cook Out to Dahlonega would create employment opportunities and generate more spending money for all of our lovely businesses and antique shops on the square!

10. Cheerwine!

Need I say more? This beverage is hard to find and is one of the many things that make Cook Out so unique!

11. 40+ Milkshake flavors?!

Holy cow! Literally. So many options for so many college students. College students who want a Cook Out in Dahlonega!

Do you agree? Let the town know!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
