Why Cruises Are The Best

Come Sail Away!

32

There is nothing like escaping reality, getting rid of your phone, and in a sense "the world," to spend a few days filling your soul with the best food, unforgettable people, new destinations, and let's not forget the nightlife, under the beautiful stars in the middle of the ocean. Seemingly as if your in the middle of nowhere, on a large cruise ship, giving you a true sense that the world is yours.

1. You will never get bored

From "who has the hairiest chest" contest, to late night bingo, zip lining, and sitting back by the pool enjoying your favorite cocktail, there is literally always something to do. Even better? cruises provide entertainment to all ages. While toddlers enjoy their own kiddie camp, there are also clubs, constant live music, water slides, sports for the teenagers, a wonderful bar, and karaoke to accompany the 21+-year-olds, along with a casino, plenty of adult jacuzzi's, and a spa for the ladies of course. Get ready to be entertained by late night comedy shows, dancers, and dinners with the captain. You will feel like everyone else enjoying the wonderful cruise experience with you (including crew members) is your family for the next few days.

2. Get ready to cheat on your diet.

Because the endless, and I mean endless, amounts of gourmet food constantly put in front of you will lure you in. Get ready for pizza and ice cream 24 hours a day, late night Mexican buffets, sushi bars, buffets by the pool, and the gorgeous dining rooms decorated with the finest chandeliers, giving an upscale ambiance. Even better? You have the option of ordering as many appetizers, entrees, and deserts as you please.

3. There are an unforgettable amount of destinations to choose from

Bermuda for a week? A weekend getaway cruise to Mexico? How about the Bahama's and Jamaica? Or even better, a cruise along the Californian Coast, Cabo, and to some of the most breathtaking countries in Europe. There are an endless amount of destinations to choose from, making your experience unforgettable both on and off the ship. Talk about living in paradise over the water while traveling and exploring some of the coolest places on earth while meeting some wonderful people along the way.

4. The night entertainment

Now let me tell you, when the sun goes down, whatever happens on the cruise ship, stays on the cruise ship. When it comes to cruising with your friends or significant other, it's almost all about the nightlife. There is probably nothing more fun then dancing to 80's music on the top deck, singing your heart out with everyone to some classic fun songs that everyone knows, on the boat, under the night stars, and of course, a drink in your hand. Stop by the club after to show your real dance moves, then maybe drop by the casino to play some blackjack, grab some free pizza and ice and accompany it to the deck with you. Sit and gaze at the stars while you contemplate never getting off the ship.

5. The "worker bees"

Or in other words, crew members. Believe me, when I say that they are a sufficient enough asset to a cruise worth mentioning because their awesomeness and friendly accommodations make your day. No matter where you are on a ship, there is always a crew member wanting to smile and say hi- and there actually genuine! From creating the coolest sea animals out of towels in your cabins daily, to their kindness, and willingness to make your experience that much better, don't be surprised if your genuinely sad (and maybe even teary eyed) the last night with your server or maitre d'.

So grab someone you love and go on a cruise, the experience is unforgettable and self-fulfilling in itself. Lastly, don't be surprised if you find yourself ditching the road trips and plane trips to specifically sticking with cruises from now on. Happy traveling!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
