A question I've gotten a lot since starting college is, "Do you ever actually go to class or do you just go to concerts?" Well, since I get good grades its obvious that I do, in fact, attend my classes. Concerts are just something I find fun to do besides classes.
I've been going to concerts here and there since I was a little kid; however, attending concerts became a much bigger thing in my life when I was in about 10th grade. It was at that point that I started attending concerts without an adult present and I really started to feel like I could enjoy myself, while listening to live music without feeling bad for dragging an adult with me.
I remember the first time I realized that going to concerts was my favorite thing to do. I went to see the band All Time Low when I was in 10th grade and it was an amazing experience. Though I waited outside in line for most of the day, I enjoyed the concert and even got to meet a few of the band members after. From that point on, I started attending as many concerts as I could.
Once I got to college in New York, I realized I had a lot more opportunities to see my favorite musicians live. I was also struggling a lot my first semester of freshman year from being lonely in a new place, so concerts were the one time I didn't feel that way.
I've met so many of my friends in New York from attending concerts and they're now some of my closest friends in the world. I wouldn't have even met them if it was not for the fact that I love going to concerts.
Music, especially in the live form, has helped me in so many ways. In particular, I got a call right before going into a concert from my mom telling me that my cat had passed away. The fact that I would be seeing my favorite band later that night made me feel at least a little bit better.
I feel like I always have to explain myself when talking to people about the amount of concerts I attend. They always tell me I spend too much money on tickets or tell me its not worth the time. However, I think its completely worth the time and I have more than one job that help to pay for these activities. I completely believe that if you find something that makes you happy, you should do what you can to keep up with it.
Attending concerts also helped me to realize what I want to do in life. I was so fascinated by how concerts are put together that I decided I wanted to be involved in it and changed my major to Arts Management.
Concerts have changed my life for the better and have helped me through some extremely tough times, which is why I don't hesitate to go to as many concerts as I can.
