As we get closer to election day many have become tired of this years presidential election, and rightfully so. These campaigns have been comical to a point of ridiculousness, but it’s still important to vote. Here are a few reasons why you should get out on Election Day.
1. Set up for a successful future:
Sure certain things on the ballot may not apply to college-aged citizens yet. However, at some point we will be tax-payers and insurance card holders so why not help our future selves out and put people with ideas we can get behind in power from now?
2. No one is going to prioritize the interests of college students like a college student will:
When the issues of loan rates, admission policies, and other higher education who better to express their opinions than those who will experience the results first hand? If you're tired of being a broke college student look for presidents, senators, representatives that believe in reforming the loan process.
3. Not everyone has the right to vote. Be happy you do:
Throughout America’s history many marginalized groups have had to fight for the right to vote. Furthermore, outside of our country some even aren’t given the choice. Respect the right to vote because it wasn’t always a right, it used to be a privilege.
4. Your vote actually does matter:
If everyone who thought their vote didn’t count they could practically make their own political party. Every vote really does count and if you disagree think back to Florida in the 2000 presidential election.
5. Free Coffee:
If you go to a participating Starbucks and show them your voter sticker, you can get a free drink. For many I think that’s incentive enough.
