Everyone has different reasons for enjoying the Christmas season, but it's one that everyone loves. Christmas is my favorite holiday, but not for the reasons many think. Christmas is about so much more than the presents and breaks from school. Even for the people that don't celebrate Christmas, it can still be a time of enjoyment and celebration. Here are the top five reasons that Christmas is my favorite holiday.
1. Decorations: Decorating for Christmas has always been one of my favorite things. The whole house sparkles as we put up the decorations and cover the entire space, making it our own little Christmas house. Even when it's stressful, some of the best memories come from decorating. People get cranky and overwhelmed, but it's usually because they want it to look good. If they didn't care, they wouldn't get worked up about it.
2. Snow: Okay, snow usually sucks. It makes the winter even colder, the roads an awful mess, and it isn't pretty once the plows get to it. However, there's something magical about how the Christmas lights shine against a fresh blanket of snow. Having a white Christmas season just feels right. Now, if you live in an area that doesn't get snow, I recommend watching every snow-filled movie you can while drinking hot chocolate, it's great.
3. Service: This doesn't necessarily refer to church, even though I love that part of Christmas too. Talking about service is more about giving back to your community. Nothing compares to helping people out in need during the holidays. Yes, we should all be concerned about the world around us and putting in our best effort to help people, but it's so important during the holiday season. Many people aren't as lucky as us and may not have a home or even a family to spend Christmas with. There are even children out there who don't get to enjoy Christmas due to personal situations. Take some time to volunteer in your community or even just say hi to someone in need. You'll make the holidays so much better for them.
4. Family: We all have families that drive us crazy, but nothing is better than being with them on a holiday. It reminds you that you are loved and cared for, something that can never be replaced. Don't take your family for granted, they can't be replaced. Enjoy this special time with them, partaking in family traditions and maybe making a few new ones while you're at it.
5. Love: My absolute favorite part about Christmas is the love that fills everyone's hearts. No matter the circumstance, people find love during this holiday season. It doesn't matter how small or insignificant it seems, it gets people through some of the roughest times. Spread a little joy and be more loving this Christmas.
During this season of giving, reflect back on what you love about Christmas and how it influences you're life. You'll be surprised by how much you learn about yourself through the things you do. Now go out and enjoy Christmas while it lasts!
