I think it's obvious that the holiday season is the best time of the year. There's plenty of treats to bake, meals to eat, and presents to give and get. It seems everybody has a little extra pep in their step around this time of year, but for some exhausted students, coming home from the battles that are finals, it's especially great. The holiday season is very important to college students for many different reasons, but all center around unwinding after a stressful semester.
For most college students, coming home for the holidays means having the first artisanal meal in months. Additionally, there is the joy that is opening a fully stocked fridge. It's no secret that college students are a bit on the cheap side (slight understatement) and are time-sensitive (meaning there's not enough time in the day to make an amazing meal), plus we're just downright lazy sometimes and eat popcorn for dinner. Therefore, a meal from Mom is much more than just baked lasagna.
Alongside food, we finally don't have to stretch every dollar we have. We're not buying groceries and with Christmas right around the corner, there's a good possibility some money will be visiting our very dusty and sad bank accounts. That means we can finally put Guac on our burritos and not cringe at "That'll be a dollar extra." Oh the joy.
Personally, I enjoy finally getting some one on one time with the family. I know some people dread this part of the holidays, but family's there for you at the end of the day-- and if they're not, friends are family, too.
Speaking of which, getting back together with all your old friends is always the best. It's like the Avengers assembling each summer for a blockbuster. I'm probably the Hawkeye of my friend group because I'm pretty useless and easy to make fun of. But hey, every Avenger is important.
And of course, the parties that occur while you're home are not like the trashy Frat parties in college...or if they are, they're probably less sticky. And who doesn't love getting drunk in the same room that your embarrassing gymnastics photos show your forgotten glory days.
Even if the holidays aren't really your thing (a concept I just cannot wholeheartedly understand), at least you get some time off from professor that won't round your 89.5 to a 90.
