Why Christmas Is My Favorite Holiday

It is a truly joyous season

I just recently went Christmas shopping with my family, and just seeing everything to do with Christmas really makes me feel happy. The music, the decorations, the trees, every aspect of the holiday creates this feeling. There is a single string of colored Christmas lights in my living room at this moment, and just that one strand makes it feel like Christmas.

So what makes it such a happy time for me?

Christmas has always been about joy, giving, and family. I have only spent a few Christmases with just my Mom and Dad, almost all of them have been with my mom's side of the family. And most of those years, we have taken the time beforehand to go see my Dad's family. Christmas has always been about family for me.

As a child, getting gifts was a great part of Christmas, but what made me feel happiest was watching everyone else opening things that they got. I get excited to give gifts to people. This year, I can't really afford more than some candy and a scarf, but I still will be giving things to my friends and family. Giving someone a gift puts a smile on their face, as well as my own. It feels amazing to give something to someone else.

Over the years, I have noticed almost everyone is in a better mood around the holidays. People seem to have more joy. People seem to want to help others more.

Christmas is my favorite holiday because of this joy and all of this happiness. The spirit of the season really shines through, especially in dark times. My grandfather died last year at the beginning of December and it made things tough, but being around family at Christmas really helped me feel much better.

Does Christmas have the same effect on others?

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
