5 Reasons Why I Chose Providence College:

Just a short year ago, I was a nervous wreck. The deadline for the Common Application was fast approaching and I was frantically adding schools I knew little of, just to ensure I would have enough variety and that I would end up somewhere.

Most of my chosen schools were in Boston or the surrounding areas. I dreamt of being in the big, beautiful city one whole hour from my hometown. But at the end of the day, Providence College was calling my name and from my very first step on campus, I knew I was home.

  1. It is close to home.

Like every high school student, I always thought I wanted to go to school away from my small hometown. As senior year became closer and closer though, I began to reconsider. Staying in state was definitely the best decision I could have made. I admire those who move hours away from home, but it has been insanely comforting during this transition to have my family close by.

    2. The Reputation

Every alumni I have ever spoken to has absolutely raved about this school. Whenever I mentioned I applied, people would tell me that it was the best school on earth. I knew I needed to be in a place where everyone loved and was enthusiastic about the school. It is clear in every encounter I have that everyone here is genuinely happy to be here and that excitement is absolutely contagious.

    3. The Campus

We are extraordinarily lucky to live on such a beautiful campus! Currently, we are in the middle of fall and the beautiful foliage makes the cold, early morning walk to Ruane for DWC slightly more bearable.

    4. The Education

There are so many options to choose from here! Business, English, Science; a total dream for undeclared students. At some of my other options, I would have been kind of limited in terms of what I could study. At Providence, however, I am confident that I will find something that I love!

    5. Most Importantly, The People

In the two quick months that I have been here, I can already tell that I am going to meet some of the most incredible, memorable people of my life. The people of Providence College have so many different interests, passions and backgrounds. Some were born and raised right here in Rhode Island, others across the world. I am so excited to see the friendships I'll create.

Providence College is a magical place, and I can confidently say I made the right decision in coming here. I am thrilled to see what the next four years bring!

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

    8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
