A lot of us don’t like this subject. Many students choose to stay away from it and never mention its name again. Well, I’m going to talk about this four letter word called math. I considered math as a calling to me, and I wanted to expand my knowledge of math throughout my college career whether I go to MIT, Columbia University, or the University of Chicago. I also intend to use a mathematics degree outside of college to receive a good paying job to support myself. You see? Isn’t math intriguing so far?
To start off, mathematics was one subject that really made sense to me. I could actually see numbers and all types of calculations on paper, and I could piece them together to answer the question. It is not like reading where you strictly read passages, infer each line, and answer the questions based on the text. When I read passages, I usually zone out and cannot remember what the story was about, because it was uninteresting. The answers were hard to find in the passage anyway. With mathematics, I can see what I am working with by pulling numbers out. After doing that, it is just basic algebra and I get the correct answer every time. I get that some branches of mathematics are difficult, but I have more ambition to improve in math than in any other subject.
The best part of having a degree in mathematics is that there is a wide variety of employment. There is a wide spectrum of jobs that involve mathematics because people use it every day. Businesses need people who are good at math to do finances, engineering, or logistics so their company can stay afloat. I want to do mathematics for engineering and electronics. I am certified in the Electronic Systems Associates field, so I am well equipped to work and show my knowledge to major companies like Northrop Grumman or Lockheed Martin. Doing mathematics in any job that I go to would not be considered a job to me. It was just be considered fun. With mathematics, I am contributing to inventing new inventions that have the potential to create a breakthrough in today’s society. Doing this makes me proud of myself, because I know that the invention that I helped create mathematically is changing lives across the nation, or even the globe.
Doing math and working with numbers makes me comfortable and feel good about myself because I am contributing to society in some sort of way. I am creating technology that changes people’s lives forever, and I like to see that hard work pay off in the long run. Having a gift of excelling in mathematics compels me to work harder and face any challenge that comes my way in this academic field. I will strive to better myself in this subject throughout my life, and nothing will ever stop me.
